The TEAM driver would make an exceptional TEAM leader (eliminate the word boss as it's out of context for a team). This TEAM player would encourage the TEAM concept and all the TEAM players would contribute to a winning season for the red TEAM. What better insight to the management of a winning TEAM would be the history book making TEAM player. As far as up and coming drivers for the TEAM, at this point in time, I would have to discount Kimi - doesn't exhibit attributes necessary to be part of a TEAM. JPM NEVER in this lifetime - he's definitely a me, me, me person and if something goes wrong it's always the other persons/things fault. Fred definitely shows more potential - very young and impressionable and so much lies ahead for him. (his contract with Renault only goes thru 2006)

Only problem is that driving a racing car fast has little to do with managing people.

JPM in a Ferrari would be fun, but not wise, agreed. Kimi and Alonso are better suited, but we're getting off the subject here.

I hear the TEAM argument loud and clear. I doubt Michael would be the right person and from what I vaguely remember he doubts that too (I think I read his answer once in an interview). That's not to bash him, but rarely have drivers made good team managers (I know Todt was a rally co, but that's not F1 and a different role) because the skills are so different. Prost and Diniz sucked (and according to his own words he would never try it again), Fittipaldi sucked, Lauda didn't do much. Bernie did some small stuff racing, but not F1. Stewart was a mild success at best. Enzo never did F1. I think the only successful one was Bruce Mc Laren, I'm sure I'm forgetting some, but in general it is not a normal progression.

Also I think Michael has better things to do like being an ambassador to goodwill in the world and the children of this world for which he does an awful lot nobody ever hears about (because he doesn't want to brag).

Almost related: Once Todt's contract as team manager ends, I *believe* he will be still boss of Ferrari's car production, right?

To the fair weathered Ferrari fans go ahead and jump off the bandwagon now.For the rest of us, keep the faith, it'll turn around. We all knew these times would eventually come, so instead of talk about sacking people how about regrouping and new motivation?

I'm not even sure it is THOSE times yet. I'm pretty sure the team will get out of this hole and we will see them win again. This year.

THOSE times will start in 2007. One and two thirds of a season to go till then.

yes you forgot a biggy Tifosi12, Jack Brabham!!

the only man to ever win the championship in a car built and owned by the driver and probably will never be repeated, followed up with Denny Hulme the following year I think.

But in general I think you're right, drivers mostly make poor team bosses

And as for Todt being given the flick......stop stirring the pot you idiot, you do nothing but stir the pot so pi55 off and go join the Porsche forum.

You have to look at the long term picture to see this "overnight" success started with LDM > JT > RBrawn > MS > RByne

    LDM knows who Ferrari need
    Todt is a great organiser
Brawn put methodical practice into the race team
Schu gave them the drive and catalyst for attracting the cream
Byrne fixed all the mistakes Barnard did and is clearly the best designer bar none!

With Todt's track record, I would consider getting rid of everyone else except Todt.

But then, I don't think any one person is to blame. If this is your team support them, stop complaining.

WHAT THE HELL KIND OF STUPID THOUGHT IS THIS

Jean Todt is one of the reason for Ferrari's success. F1 is a team sport and either the whole team succeeds or the whole team fails.

    Ferrari 1 - 2 at Monaco!

Thank you Imperial - you've summed it all up.

Now, it's time for this "stupid thought" to be put to rest and concentrate on supporting the entire Ferrari TEAM for the remainder of the season.

You would have had to have missed Schumacher's entire career to not notice how much leadership he brings to the team. I would LOVE to see him take the reigns, however I would expect him to take a sabbatical after retiring as a driver. Even MS needs a vacation!!!

I can't think of even one modestly successful F1 driver that was a successful team manager later in life. It just takes a different set of skills to run an F1 team and make it work. Take Briatore for example, the guy is a total jerk but for some reason he's an outstanding team manager who had no previous motor racing experience before joining Benetton.

    Latest news quote:

    http://www.formula1.com/news/2991.html

As Ferrari resumed testing at Fiorano on Tuesday, Michael Schumacher insisted the team are still potential title challengers, despite their poor start to the 2005 season.

"Of course it wasn't the greatest result in the race for the title; that is clear enough,” he said. “Obviously the title challenge has got harder but all is not yet lost. We will go on working and battling. It is far from over."

After the stunning race pace they displayed in Imola, a lot was expected of Ferrari in Spain. In the end this did not materialise and instead it was McLaren who streaked away to end Renault’s stranglehold on the 2005 campaign.

“The season's opening races have proved just how much can change during a single weekend and how quickly they can change,” pointed out Schumacher. “So, I'll say it once more: the season is a long one and lots could still happen.

"Those who consider us to be out of the running do not know us," he warned. "We will not be swayed by all the worry. We will work calmly on our weak points and we will get back to being competitive as soon as we can."

In a bid to regain that competitiveness, Luca Badoer was on track in the F2005 on Tuesday, carrying out Monaco Grand Prix preparations and Bridgestone tyre development. He completed 188 laps (23 of them on the track’s short layout) with a best time of 57.649s.

Badoer continues work at Fiorano on Wednesday, when Schumacher will join him. Rubens Barrichello is also expected to test this week.

Ralf and Michael are very close. They often play games with the media on purpose to give them something to talk about. Michael has asked Ralf on several occasions to downplay his chances and achievements to the media.
