Since Mark is having a new kid, and that may impact upon his finishing the V12 308 project, I thought perhaps we could set up a drawing to help him get a few of the parts that he needs.

Let's see what everyone has to say.

It is a really nice gesture Art and I am not trying to spoil the idea, just explain my no vote.

What he will need is time not money. :) A lot of things went on the back burner so we could raise our daughter and I have no regrets. I don't think Mark will either.

    Plus I'm a cheap bastard.

Thats too bad your so self centered and opposed to this. It does not take a whole lot of effort to pool resources and help someone out, especially someone who contributes so much to this forum with his expertise and knowledge.

There are plenty of people here who I think would differ with your position and would gladly contribute to see this continue and finish and not drudge on for years. Seeing that it is so unique to the Ferrari community, I think it would be a wonderful gesture to help out and contribute. Some people are more capable than others and that would obvisouly be reflected in their level of generosity.

    Cheers

I would gladly give some money to Mark if he accepts it and also would like to do something else if necessary.

He is doing a fantastic work and it would be fun if he could give us some feedback and tell us what could help him best.

Mark, what can we do for you?

    Guys,
This is a very generous thought and I’m glad you are all enjoying the project enough to consider it worth contributing to see it get finished…….but Dave is kind of right that time is at least as big a factor as money. I would feel horrible if I let you guys buy parts that I ended up not having time to use.

So you guys know a few guys have already been very helpful. An f-chatter gave me 6 Ti 355 con rods. Another F-chatter helped me find the rest put the rest of the set together by swapping rods he had for the rods I had. 2 other f-chatters helped me put the set of 12 ducati TBs together by giving me a heads up anytime a set turned up anywhere in the world. Another F-chatter lent me the special TIG torch I need to work in the intake ports. And the list just goes on whether it’s advice, parts sources, helping with a supplier, helping make something, or whatever.

I think I’m about 20k-25k into this conversion at this point with another 10k-15k to go to finish up. I also think I have a LOT of labor left to wrap up. Lets see how I do on the labor part before we worry too much about the money part.

Not all are enjoying the project enough to contribute Mark. I am surprised the Ferrarichat world is so tight with a buck? Considering how many members are here; it would not take a big dollar contribution from each member to help you out. I know times are hard for some but others dont wink an eye about spending an insane amount for a can of Zymol Carnuba. Obviously they are not hurting if they can drop 3 bennies on some wax. This would be a very cool thing to do IMO, but apparently I am in the minority here? I hope you finish it. Like i said before, it is an amazing undertaking and I have been enjoying watching you progress in your unique and insane creation. Thanks for giving me that Mark! I hope you "geter done!"

and thanks for helping me answer my questions on my own cars over the years.

    Cheers

I'm in. It would be better to maybe make some 308 V-12 t-shirts and charge an insane amount for them. I love to help out, but I need a t-shirt. :)

Great idea - a la Birdman's 308 shirts. BTW, Birdman sent the his design to a t-shirt company and they put everything up on their website. T-shirt, sweat shirts, etc. A clean way to handle the mechanics of it all.

Something nice to wear to the next FCA National this coming September at New Jersey Motorsports Park....

Very good idea, let the shirt design competition begin.

Edit: Oh I know. If you have an expensive T-shirt I owe you a ride, if you have a really expensive polo shirt I owe you a drive.

I am going to fashion mine by modifying a blue snuggie and selling them with embroidery stating, "Mark's V12 keeps me warm". I doubt I will win an award from the fashion industry, but at the very least I can roll with Lindsay Lohan's fashion line.

I believe it is more honorabe to accept winning, or defeat, on your own. No one is ever going to offer to help me finish my project, anymore than anyone is going to help anyone else finish theirs. While Marks is certainly quite "over the top", it his baby. If he cant do it, and if he has to sell it, then its fair game. Just as mine will be if I go bankrupt.

I have the utmost respect for Mark trying to accomplish what he is trying to do, and I wish him all the success. But anyone contemplating a radical custom project has to have some appreciation what they are getting into, as well as the risk's. I can read well enough to know Mark quite well understands the risk, and has all along.

I still think it's an excelent project for Discovery Channel or a car magazine to cover. A lot more interesting than cutting down trees.

    Congrat on the new kid.

This reminded me of the time I was working on other project, the 1st phase took me about 4 years, the 2nd phase took about 3 years. Money was never a problem, finding the the time to work on it was, I still remembered after getting home from work, I worked on the project until 1-2 am in the morning. There were time I simply took vacations to wrench on the project for more than 14 hours a day. Finding balance with the wife, kids, job, mountain biking and a project was never easy.

Now my truck just blew its clutch cylinder, I took me 15 minutes to order another cylinder for $170, I just don't know how to get the time to install it.

Keep it going MarkE! The 1st time, I drove my project around the block sitting on milk crate after years of working on it, everything seemed worthwhile.
