Just wondering if/how this is enforced.

    I've also wondered:

    1. Standard Tags?
    2. Is there a notation on the registration? (or is it on the title).

If it's not on the registration, will the average policeman no a MB CLK-DTR is show and display only???

The real kicker though would be what uis the penalty for violation? I don't know, but it certainly could be to forfeit the car!

Funny, my wife and I were talking about the Show and Display law just last night. She wanted to know the same thing: how does the DOT know if you go over your mileage and if you do, what happens? Do they take your car?

Probably just the potential of an audit and impound. Are there numbers on how many cars are in the US under show and Display? It may be a small enough number to easily enforce.

they make you buy another version of your car and then crash-test both and then the remains of your car can be kept without a show & display restriction.

    1. I would guess this varies from state to state as is the case with many issues related to registration of a vehicle.

    2. Same as above.

    3. Probably not, unless he's a real car nut or a Detective assigned to Major Case Auto Theft(or whatever it's called in said jurisdiction). Even in that case he would only be intrested if he received information the vehicle was stolen or notified by N.I.C.B. (National Insurance Crime Bureau) that you were the perpetrator of some type of insurance fraud. The only other exception would be a Trooper or State Cop assigned to DMV.

    4. I have no idea aside from a citation for illegal use of a registration.

I was going to suggest getting in contact with Don Wallace's people. For some reason, their website, supercarsofflorida.com, isn't working. He has several cars under Show or Display. CLK-GTR, 911 GT1, McLaren F1, 400th Enzo, maybe the MC12 (not sure on that).

Someone on this forum has said that Gerd's CLK-GTR, a little further south of Mr. Wallace, has close to 30k miles on his. It was for sale on DuPont a year or so ago, but I don't recall the mileage. You can probably contact them through their website: http://www.westcoastmotor.com/

Of course FL is known for not being too strict with its registered cars. We are no California when it comes to stuff like this.

Why would his F1 and Enzo be under S&D? They're both legal road cars in the US.

Nope if it is "Federalised" with big garish bumpers etc... If not then S&D.

There is that one owned out in West Texas by CB Audiguy's friend it was federalised then the stock stuff put back on... then there is the one that was "imported" and then siezed because they had not federalized it right and didn't ask for a S&D exemption (saving money costs money)

There are some inspectors who actually do go out to look at cars but there are only a couple and it is a b i g country

No, Don Wallace's F1 is under Show or Display. You're thinking of the first ~7 F1s that came into the US BEFORE the Show or Display went into effect. Now they can be imported, and are being, with Show or Display.

The Enzo is under Show or Display because it is a Euro model and "special" because it is the 400th "Pope" Enzo. It's the only Enzo under Show or Display.
