    My 'Hi-Fi' would not fit in a car--there is no way to put a 3foot by 6 foot elctrostatic pannel anywhere in the interrior (let alone two of them), so I listen at home with 38dB background noise floor and 62 dB signal to noise ratio;

Rather than a 82dB background noise floor and 18dB of signal to noise.

Another way to look at this is that in the 10 years of F355 ownership, and a marvelous 300 Watt/Channel stereo installed (6-disk changer and all that); it has only been turned on 3 times.

Mine's in a box on the shelves in the garage...somewhere...along with those heavy speakers. The amp and boom box that came in the car were given away at the first opportunity. :)

Mine came with an Alpine. It has aux connections for an iphone or ipod, but I just tried them and they don't work. I'll have to figure out what's going on.

Mine's a spider, so radio is even less of a priority.

Have you seen how some of the newer Ferrari's are integrating iPhones? It looked like there was a mounting dock, and instead of a radio head unit, you just click your iPhone into place. Unfortunately I can't find a picture, so I've been a big help. Plus, if apple comes out with a new iPhone, that's slightly bigger, wider, etc. one might be screwed.

Can you keep us informed about your ideas? The head units today seem so silver and cheesy looking. I hate the look of the alpine unit in mine currently. But I spent hours looking for a replacement radio, and I hated all the options. Older Blaupunkt radios, like the one that came in my SLK, always looked great to me. Really understated. Below is one of their current versions. They look terrible in my opinion.

I feel like all the head units have been designed to appeal to a bizarre demographic.

I love the nakamichi cd400. Two things that make it great. The sound quality is unreal and it gives you the amber coloring. No other head unit I've used sounds better; caveat being that the original recording must be good. Pair it with a set of Focal speakers and a JL sub and you'll be set. I powered it with a PPI 5 channel amp.

It has an aux input in the rear however so you would have to get a bit creative.

    Good luck.

I added an Alpine unit with a USB and Ipod ready unit. Im adding FOCALS this year, but it works great. Was also Pandora Radio Ready, so I have the free sattelite radio available If i choose to. Great unit and easy to install.
but I have to say, test pipes and a tubi are much much more enjoyable to listen to.

I have the Focal 165 seakers with tweeters and the Focal 4 Amp. Pioneer low profile Subwoofer mounted on the pass sidewall on left. I went with a Pioneer Preimere AM/FM/CD/Ipod/bluetooth and remote and am quite happy, sound is clear and crisp and thats at 120 MPH with the top down :)

I just purchased this JVC head unit (iPod, Bluethooth, etc.) from Crutchfield. IMHO, it is one of the best sounding and looking units available. I'm researching amps right now. I am going to go with a set of 3-way Focals with custom made cross-overs. No sub. This kid is strictly Classical and Classic Rock. :)

That unit looks awsome, how is the screen during the day in bright sun ?
How is the bluetooth quality ?
    Nice find

I have Focal 5.25" separates with the crossovers behind the vents in the dash. I have the Alpine digital PDX 4x100rms powering it and the sound is phenomenal.

LMK is you'd like pics or model #s. :)

Sorry for the delay. I have not installed it yet, I'm still researching amps. Although, I had the same questions. It has a photodiode light-sensing feature which adjusts the screen brightness to the ambient light. The display unit (in a brightly, sunlite showroom) looked GREAT, very bright and clear. In addition, its built-in amplified was one of the most clear, powerful units I've ever heard. I would easily reproduce low organ pedal frequencies on, e.g., Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor, without muddiness or clipping. Not too bad for the price, huh.

Has anybody noticed we all seem to like Focal speakers. :) They have some insane $6000.00 component system that comes packed in an aluminum fitted case. LOL Way too high end for my taste (and budget).

I am seriously considering their amplifiers for my system.

Thanks for the info. Very nice finds. However, I have one caveat. Many stereo manufacturers are now only honoring their warranties if the unit is purchased from an "authorised dealer". Not all that important, but something to consider.

I find that as well, but you need to check what the honored warranty is with seller.
Is it worth a 200.00 savings and take the chance ??
I emailed the seller on ebay about the warranty
