At the risk of sounding somewhat insulting, is there a detailer in Arizona that can be considered amongst the best in the country? Don't get me wrong, I know there are a number of capable options, but I'm referring to top of the line paint correction (paint thickness documented; chip fill, not touch up; wet sanding, etc, etc), trim appropriately taped, glass polished, every nook and cranny addressed, then topped off with a concourse level finishing.

I think that someone like that shares premises with suppliers of audiophile stereo wire - you know the stuff that sells for $5,0000 per foot and "absolutely makes a discernible difference in what you hear"

The reality is that whenever you drive your car after a detail job, it is sandblasted by dust particles in the air, at whatever speed you happen to be driving. Seems like it's counterproductive to have your paint thickness measured when it is being worn away every second the car is in motion.

I know some really good detailers in AZ and they make the car look perfect - much better than it ever looked when it was new at the factory. But as you drive it out you are exposed to the elements, as well as roadside sprinklers, bird droppings, ash being flicked out of other cars and acid being blown out of the tailpipe just ahead of you.

I like a clean car, but I don't fret anymore about perfection. It is simply unattainable in the real world.

    Good luck with your search.

I hear what you are saying, and I generally don't fret the perfection, either. Usually, I subscribe to a routine of proper washes, periodic sealants/waxing, and quick detailing in between. No doubt, there are many fine detailers in the area. The paint thickness issue was not for my own edification, but based on my impression that the best in the business assess this so that they know what they have to work with and how aggressive they might be permitted to get with regard to their corrective measures.

I am not seeking this level for all my vehicles or forever more. I intend to enter a few shows with a car I just picked up, and I am in search of an exceptional paint correction/detail service for that purpose. Afterward, I intend to return to my heretofore less intense car care.

I have sampled a couple detailers in the area, and was simply wondering if there were any other recommendations I should consider.

You might just give the Porsche forums a try as their judging standards are more focused on cosmetic perfection and cleanliness than are the Ferrari and Jaguar clubs. Many of us have collected multiple regional and national platinum and +99 point awards with cars detailed by the best in Phoenix, but they may not be up to your requirements. I have to say that I respect guys like Jon Shirley who win at Pebble and then flog the heck out of the car in following years at every racetrack and rally. Good luck with the search!

It seems that either my inquiry is being misinterpreted, or I grossly misworded the request. Perhaps, there are elements of both. I was not suggesting that anyone here has insufficient standards, quite the contrary. What I was hoping to elicit were recommendations for the best services around the area from owners who have have done precisely as you state, rather than company self-promotion. There are some fine companies represented on these forum (that is who I [initially] feared I might insult). The question might have simply been phrased: who do you trust when you are preparing to show your car, with the presumption that there might be several services one is satisfied with to care for their collection month to month, but only one in particular that they use when preparing for judging.

My initial post was, to some degree, a reaction from having used one local service who was supposed to be of the caliber that they had been entrusted with a variety of exotic and collectible automobiles. Short of the story is that I paid significant money for results that were mediocre, at best. There are many exceptional vehicles and owners in the area, such that they are far beyond the scope of my little endeavor.

That was my intention gone horribly awry, to ask for the best from the best. To those for whom my words rang sour, I sincerely apologize.

Certainly no apologies needed! I interpreted you inquiry to mean that you were seeking "Butch Dennison - Pete Lovely - Pebble Beach" level of preparation, which to my knowledge is not available in the Arizona region.

I'm sure the other board members can chime-in with their favorite detailers.

You might try The Stables who have hooked up with Ted Hersey out of Ohio. Ted is there one week a month and is well known to the Pebble Beach crowd for concours level detail work. Good luck, Les

OK, that explains a lot! Top up or top down on the 360 in the car wash tunnel? Top down, you can get a shower and do your laundry at the same time. Happy Birthday BTW!

If you want someone that can knock your socks off, have the car detailed by Evan Kirk. He Does a lot of prep work for UAG Premier group. And repairs all of the screw ups that other "detailers" cause to some exotics. He is in the Airpark. He is also trained some detailers for big outfits here in north Scottsdale. If you want the best. He is the MAN.
If you want the ridiculous done to your car, don't bother him. There others for that.

    Ditto
Evan's been detailing cars for me for over twelve years. He cares more than any other detailer I have ever engaged.
He carries his own soft water and uses good products. There's no BS about the products, just honest hard work and attention to detail. Highly recommended.
