John- That is what I need to do with my Fokker Dr.I Triplane propeller. Quite a bit bigger, though.

Well, Since dmark got drawn to the sucker/blower dark side, it seems that Michelle and I are the only ones flying the MU-2 Banner. Awesome airplane. Feels like a 757.

My condolences to the KC-10 gent. Get the Hell out of that thing. The DC-10 was one of the worst (dangerous) airplanes ever designed!

Loved the T-28s. It's what I learned to fly in. You guys try learning to fly behind 1,500 HP. What were they thinking?!?!

But the Starships and Piagio take the cake. I'm green with envy. Enjoy those bad girls. ;-)

This is a great thread. Glad I stumbled onto it.

    Ciao Y'awl. Stay well.

There's a guy name Bob Nass with a hanger in Clemson who flys these. I think he has them redone by the guru over in Aiken, and his chief pilot or partner is an expert who was involved with the training. Can't quite recall his name, but he sure had the stories! One of the coolest twins ever produced, well, besides the Piaggio.

Hola DonV and Juan Manuel! Thanks for the comments. I'll check into Nass. Shouldn't be too hard - I use Aiken as well.

DonV: What do "you" have a 331 in? Couldn't possibly be as loud as ours. I cringe each time I see everyone on the ramp cup their ears - lol.

So cool, we live in Clemson, and know Gary and Troy well. Call him Scary Gary next time you see him. Here is a video of him taking off and flying around our estate. I always wanted to have a Just Aircraft Fly In with overnight camping, but then we had the fire....

Note for some reason you have to click on watch on Vimeo on the first one. I guess Julie has some sort of setting selected. Let us know if you get to Clemson and we will show you around.

Sweet ride. I’d love one, but the wife wanted “higher, faster, farther” .... and a wide cockpit- lol

I do feel obligated to point out that the 980 owned the time to climb and absolute altitude records for light turboprops until the Cheyenne 400LS came along. And 300 knots at FL280 isn't too bad... I'm mainly limited by the barber pole most of the time.

Not my plane, but I spent a lot of time in it. Previously owned by my former employer, looks like it's in KY now. Very cool Saratoga with HD livery. Always got looks and comments wherever we went. :)

I flew one of these in 1947 and again in 2002. A lovely airplane! I would have one today in a flash. Lucky guy.

When I look at this plane I am reminded of the comment made by an airline pilot when he saw one of the first 737's take off in the 60's, " Nice punt!"

Dave, Bob- How common are airspeed indicators in mph? Not much light aircraft time myself, so had not noticed. Everything I flew showed knots.

The 1974 C-172 I learned in had a MPH AI. None since.

    Taz,
In general all US built aircraft before around 1974 had airspeed indicators in MPH. In the mid 1970's GAMA (General Aviation Manufacturing Association) recommended all manufacturers standardize on knots and so most but not all switched (Maule for example still to this day uses MPH calibrated airspeeed indicators). My 1973 310 still has MPH with knots on the inner scale.

    cheers
    Dave

So it seems like you have made it to the far end of the old joke about the guy in the Stinson wishing he were in the King Air, King Air guy wishing he were in the Boeing, Boeing guy wishing he were in the A-12, A-12 guy wishing he were in the Stinson?

What a nice airplane, the 108. But I would still like to have an Aviat Husky, strong, quick, and a lot of good fun performance. A friend in Oregon has one and I got to fly it many times. Good airplane for the mountain strips.
