Hello all. I think I may have gotten in over my head here, and would love some advice. I've never shown my '86 Mondial 3.2 Cab before, and I thought it would be fun to go to the Geneva Concours this summer. So I sent in my registration form and pictures already, and I was informed that my car was accepted as an entry to be judged. I was just hoping to park with the FCA guys, but apparently that parking area isn't judged and my car will be in the center area of the show instead. So now I'm all nervous about having my car judged. I've read some good stuff on how to prep the car for the show, but nothing about how to show it. Should I arrange my books, tools, and literature nicely in the rear boot and then open it to display it to the judges, or do I need to keep them out all day? Can the top be down, or does it need to be up? Can I leave the car (with the loose bits locked in the boot) and go see the rest of the show when its not being judged? Never having shown a car before I think I may have bitten off more than I can chew. Help!

What I did at the FCA Nationals was to wait until the judges are close to judging the car. Place the tools kit, jack kit on a ground cloth (on the ground) along with your manuals. The judges will inspect those items, and move on to the car. Once their inspection is complete, you can place all the tools, etc.. back in the car and lock it up. Do not leave these things out without being there! Some item may take a walk, I know that is disappointing to hear, but I would rather be careful instead of careless. Don't worry about parking in a special spot, all the FCA folks will be coming by to see your car and say hello.

    Go and have some fun.

Thanks JohnnyS - appreciate the info. I'm in Clarendon Hills - hopefully we'll run into each other sometime.

I knew I was in for it as soon as I posted that! One more question for anyone with a convertible - what do you do with the boot and the tonneau cover? (If your car came with one or both.) Just fold them up neatly next to your tools and documents? And is having the top up necessary? I know these are probably anal questions, but I'd like to get these sorts of little things out of the way so I can just have fun at the show.

Usually, the top is on and any covers are stored in their normal place for viewing. The only things that need to be out of the car are to tool/jack kits and the origional car papers like the owners manual, service book, etc..

You may see me sometime as I do drive around Clarendon Hills area but mostly on weekends.

It most likely will be French Concours judging (emphasis on style, appearance, visual impact). This system allowed for cars that wouldn't ordinarily be able to win a Concours to be up for the running of the Judges Choice Award, the proverbial 'Best of Show.'

This is less stringent than 'Concours d' Elegance' judging, which looks for total correctness as the car would have been when it left the factory.

I did this event last year. You must send in your registration along with a charitable contribution. You will be notified if your car will be accepted for judging. You can always join the FCA Centralstates group and park. It is a very nice event.

Oops. Just READ your post and see that you have already been accepted. I believe last year all the Ferraris were still parked in the same area. I was next to a 365 boxer and a 355 and both were judged.
