Hey guys, so I bought up my 95 Berlinetta 3 month ago. The car was in good shape, but needs some attention. Over all Im gonna be the 3rd owner who is going to sort the car out. Apart from the engine, because the car has the Tubi headers, Tubi cat delete and Tubi exhaust.
I enjoy taking the pics of the process of the car, and sharing. So decided to create a 'garage" thread here and have my process of the car that I do. Love to stay in touch that way :D

The day I got the car

The 355 is the new addition to the Nissan 370Z project that I had. Currently selling the Z if anyone interested.

First thing 1st I had to fix the shifter gasket as soon as possible. The previous owner drove like this, not realizing what it car do. The gasket completely fell apart  causing the shifter gated metal plate to crack the trim around it =( if anyone haven't done so, check or replace your asap.

You can see how the trim around it gets damaged if the gasket does not hold the shifter gated plate in place.

    All cleaned up.

Ordered a new gasket through Racambi, the piece is only like $15.

Channged gear oil, or transmission oil a few weeks ago. Went with RedLine 75w90NS. I did have hard 2nd gear shifts. Now it's finally better with RedLine NS.

While changing the fluid, I did a few few things.
    Image Unavailable, Please Login

Took off the exhaust heat shield to recondition it. It was in rough shape. Coating was peeling and a lot of cracks in the fiberglass.
    Image Unavailable, Please Login

It's not perfect, but will redo the whole thing later, cause still a few cracks are visible, but main peeling and big cracks fixed.
    Image Unavailable, Please Login

Replaced some of the annoying 355 bolts with separate washers with the new built in washer design, on the intakes and the heat shield. The wheel liner screws need to be updated as well. Actually a lot of crews and nuts need to be replaced lol

Not just the engine bay looks clean with new bolts but it feels like it holds better :D

I was going to post up the materials later as I do the entire thing. This is just to kinda clean up the look.
But I sanded down the cracks and peeling coating with the 80 grit sandpaper, and used some fiberglass putty to fill some areas where it was bad. Than Used 3M rubberized undercoating to apply new fresh coat.

I've found those aftermarket hood struts are much too powerful and actually bend the hood in the closed position.
With the stock ones it would close and be totally flat. With the aftermarket, it would be bowed up in the middle about 1/2".
    I went back to stock.

huh interesting. When i searched for the 355 shocks. They were for $350 a pair, so aftermarket ones I went with. Didn't even realize some places offer for $21 a piece. I would have gone with that. Ohhhh well. I guess if I'll see anything wrong with this brand of aftermarket shocks overtime I will take them off. But for now, how hard those shocks are removed, Im not even gonna try again.

Did my 1st oil change today.
I ended up putting 8.5 qt in. After running the car 5 min at reached operating temp, every time I measured it was at MAX. I thought 9 qt should go in, but at 8.5 qt it was at MAX. I tried checking as the car was running, and after turning the car off. Same results, and it was kinda hard to see the oil mark on the dip stick as where the oil level was.
I know about a quart stays in the oil sump lines, but looks like 1.5 qt did.

Park Brake cover removal. Requires a certain modification. To loosen the cover there are 4 screws.

Then unscrew that locking shaft with a Philips screwdriver.

With an air saw carefully make a notch in the hole for the rod to escape, so it can be disconnected.

And the park brake cover is out. Getting it recovered, since they all tend to rip over time.

Ian I did not! :( With the park brake cover removed, I at least made sure that the sensor was working properly when engaging and disengaging the brake. But still no light on the dash. I need to test the wiring as you mentioned and also trace the wire back to the binnacle and see if maybe the contact or something is bad somewhere. Im really curious what it could be. Slow process here with it, doing other things in between.

For info: Alex has already changed the bulb (mentioned in PMs). All the other lamps are working, so he should have power to the lampholder. He just needs an earth from the handbrake switch. Unfortuately, I don't have a diagram for Alex's USA 2.7 car with airbag.

Recently I did my passenger side upper ball joint replacement. When I got the car is was making a banging noise when going over bumps, like something was loose on that side.

    got new ball joints in...

    Image Unavailable, Please Login
Removing the upper control arm from the ball joint is easy, but removing the joint from the hub  The joint is pressed in so tight there, you will not be able to get it out without a press.

    Image Unavailable, Please Login

    Image Unavailable, Please Login

went to a local auto store and got myself an axle press which worked perfectly for the joint :D

    Image Unavailable, Please Login

    Image Unavailable, Please Login

Got the ball joint pressed out nicely! That joint was so tight in there, there is no way I would have gotten it out without that press.

    Image Unavailable, Please Login

No press needed once replacing with a new one. Once you tighten the joint there, it presses in by itself.

    Image Unavailable, Please Login

So the majority of the noises are gone now. There is still a slight feeling on that side of something. Maybe control arm bushings? or a lower joint? The noises are not 100% gone but a lot better. Will need to look into it later.
