A while back I took apart both my power side mirrors because they were struggling to move around during adjustments. I completely dissassembled them to clean out grit and gime plus applied some light lube to make things smooth again. after re-assembly the drivers mirror work perfect but the passenger mirror moved at lightning speed (???) so I had to just quickly touch the switch to make needed adjustments. Living with this condition for a year, I finally had time to dissect the problem during this current dash/door panel renovation period.

It turns out the that planetary (triple) reduction gearing system internally has an interesting feature. The 3 tiny plastic gears have a different tooth count on each side of each gear 16T vs. 17T. I found I had flipped over the passenger side set upon reassembly not noticing this difference. The result was an "overdrive" motion.

So, if anyone decides to repair their side mirrors, make sure you orient the triple gears the way you took them out.

Sorry about not having any pictures. If anyone gets stuck on this just PM me and I can talk you through it.

Has anyone else run into this?
