It says in the 458 manual that the side view mirrors can be pushed forward or backwards. I ask because we may be moving to a new home and I was a little concerned about the side-to-side clearance going into the new garages. It will go but likely will be a tight fit. Has anyone moved a side view mirror to "reduce the car width". I did not want to do it until I asked if someone had any experience with it. It appears that each mirror sticks out about 7 inches on each side. Thanks, Al
Can the side view mirrors not be electronically turned in on all 458s? If not then I do not know if they can be manually done, I would imagine so, but yes they reduce the width by roughly 1/2 foot. Sunny
Absolutely they can be folded manually. I fold mine when waxing to get into all the painted elements. If you have power seat option they are foldable electrically as well. Best
my 2010 mirrors can be folded electrically inside the car. I donnot know about other years. I would call a dealer to see about your mirrors. my quess is they can either be electrical or manual. But why guess it could be an expensive repair. To the Op point. I use my folding mirrors all of the time to get into my garage Lee
not all 458's have the folding mirror options, i discovered mine had the option about 8 months into ownership by a post on this forum explaining how to fold them for those who dont know here is how u fold them: u turn the mirror turning switch on the left of the steering wheel to 6 o'clock (to where it shows 2 little inward turned arrows: ><)
I was pretty excited when I read your post. However, I do not have the 2 little arrows at 6 o'clock - looks like I do not have the electric option. For those that have folded them, looking at the mirror, it appears that they can be rotated. I can't imagine they can actually be "pushed backward and forward". How are they folded? Don't want to cause any damage. Guess I could call the dealer but wanted to ask here first. Thanks. Al
Al, i would not try folding them 'unelectrically', u can ask ur dealer to install the folding option, shouldnt be too expensive i reckon..
Don't be so amazed. My 2001 Maserati Spider folds it's mirrors inwards. Ferrari is just finally catching up.
the electrochromic option is required to get the electronic folding side mirrors. i wish i had known that 8 months ago when i was specing my car!
In this day and age of the ultra modern car (with all its gimmickry, electronic this, computer assisted that, joysticks instead of toggle switches, and touch screens, etc) it amazes me that people aren't reading their owner's manual. Come on, these aren't '70s cars where you just get in, turn the key, and drive away and it's all figured out by the time you reach the first stop light. Even after six months of ownership of these ultra modern machines and you still find yourself asking, "Oh, what does that do?" Starting and setting off in some of these newer higher end cars is almost as though you must go through a pre-flight check list. It is damn near mandatory to read the manual. Sure you know what options you purchased but you truly must read the owner's manual like a Dickens novel to know exactly how to operate them. Well, if not, thank GOD for F-chat.
Yes, you need both Int and ext electrochromatic mirror option to get electric folding mirrors. However, you do not need to have electric seats or memory.
