2007 F430 with 3300 miles (1400 of them mine), just purchased a few months ago. Friend was watching me pull into the garage and said that one of my exhaust tips "was loose" or something. Sure enough...it wiggles back and forth.

Got the flashlight out...as I work backwards from the outermost right exhaust tip, it goes into a pipe, turns left in an L shape and is connected by a bracket.

Right where it's connected, this pipe is cracked (possibly most of the way around, sort of sheared off)...so it's kind hanging there.

What the HECK could cause that...and how bad is that...I'm thinking the whole damn exhaust has to be replaced and big $$$ etc....

Will call dealer tomorrow...but wanted some advice...thx

Something that loose I certainly wouldn't drive it.

Some times small things can be welded back into place.

I can only assume that the closer to the "end" of the exhaust system the chance for repair increases.

    Let's keep our fingers crossed.

    Yours,

    Tom

Sounds like the recall item. Hopefully it hasn't been done already? Do you know if they did it yet?

Yes, recall item. No worries. If exhaust manifold TSB not yet done, might as well have them done at same time.

Funny as hell.Guy chases me down and hands me the tip and 1 foot of the tail pipe.Fell off going down the road and this stranger picks it up, hot as hell and chases me down.
Towed and fixed for free by Algar.

I feel the need to elaborate.Algar Ferrari in Philly was unreal, fantastic.Towed it in.Very nice on the phone.FIXED IT RIGHT AWAY AND TOWED IT BACK all at no charge to me.I was upset (to myself) that it happened and they turned the bad situation into a very pleasant experience.

Will this recall still be valid on cars that warranty expired?

Yes on recall. I think a TSB has to be done under warranty. That's why it's good to get those wrapped up under warranty whether you need it or not.

It's not a new recall, but if the tailpipes are intact they are usually left alone. If they break, they're replaced with new. However, there is a bracket kit that strengthens this section (to prevent failure) that can be installed under recall/warranty. It's service campaign 291: tailpipe reinforcement kit.

Since yours broke, it will be replaced with a new tailpipe. I'm not sure if the replacement tailpipes include this reinforcement piece. If not, you might ask if it can be included so it can help prevent future cracks. I believe the reinforcement kit includes parts to do both the driver and passenger side taipipes.

    Hope this helps.

If Algar sold you the car or serviced it for you and didn't realize there was a recall/TSB, they did you no favors.

I've had TSBs done on my car after the warranty ran out. There are a bunch involving the exhaust system. Supposedly the manifolds are covered by the 8/80 emissions warranty because they contain pre cats. But ask your dealer.
