I lent my friend my sigma 70-300 and he just IM'd me saying his D60 was saying "Set Lens To Lowest F Stop"

The sigma 70-300 is a full auto lens, everything is adjusted on the camera. Its not possible to set the fstop on the lens. This is the lens: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/549304-REG/Sigma_5A8306_70_300mm_f_4_5_6_APO_DG.html

He was taking pics with it before and went to use it again and it threw up that error

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

I'm not a nikon user, but I'm going to take my best guess about what that error message may mean. I'm guessing he's in manual mode, and that at his current ISO and shutter speed selections, he needs the lens to be as wider (lowest F-stop).

But I don't know. Just speculating as to why the camera would ever say that rather than just show you the exposure meter.

Does he get an "F EE" message when looking through the view finder? I've only got experience with a D40, but they're very similar, and I believe it's saying that the camera can't communicate with the lens properly. In your friends case it could be dirt on the contacts, or that the lens isn't mounted properly. Has he tried taking it off and giving the contacts a quick clean and re-mounting?
