On my 75 308gt4 the signal switch, when I pull it down for the left signal, doesn't always work. When it doesn't work there is a faster clicking sound from the dash but no flashing left turn signal on the lights or the dash indicators. If I "wiggle" it while it's down it will sometimes start "signaling" properly. There is no problem when I signal to the right. Has anyone else had this kind of problem? Is my switch pooched? If so where does one get one of these? Thanks, Blaine

I would suggest that you remove the steering wheel and expose the turn signal switch. Get some contact cleaner and spray the left/right switch contacts. Move the switch back and forth and then wait till the cleaner dries . Turn on the ign and try the signal and hopefully it will work. If not you may need to get it rebuilt or buy new. I think there is one on ebay now but you are talking about $1200. Good luck

I had a similar issue in the past. Fast clicking sound from the relay, but no signals. In my case it was a faulty signal relay. Replaced it and had no more problems.

    Best Regards from Germany

Verell Boaen, who you will find regularly on the 308/328 forum, just serviced my turn signal/headlight/wiper unit. My turn signal stalk had broken, and he molded a new one for me, took the whole thing apart, cleaned all the contact points, etc., and sent it back to me better than new.

One warning -- if you decide to take the unit apart yourself, there are a couple of ball bearings in there that are held in place by some rather powerful little springs (they are what make the stalks "click" into place when you move them). As you take the unit apart, the springs and ball bearings will go flying with considerable force. If you decide to go in there, remove the unit from the steering column and disassemble it on the workbench, inside a large, clear plastic bag, like a dry cleaner bag. Otherwise, springs and ball bearings will disappear. And the real problem is not taking it all apart; it comes apart fairly easily. It's getting it back together. Those little springs and ball bearings are an absolute PITA to get back into place. After one prior experience with that unit, I opted to let the "expert" do it. Verell is clearly the best when it comes to these units, and his prices are very reasonable.

If spraying some contact cleaner doesn't work, I'd give Verell a shout.

I've encountered the same irratic signal performance on almost every car that I've ever owned..sooner or later(30)..i'ts always been the turn signal relay..including my 1980 400i..go to your local parts store and match up the relay it is probably under the dash above your left knee on a left hand drive car..you Do NOT need to spend a fortune on the Ferrrai replace ment..try this before you even think of tackling the column switch..the switch can be cleaned with spray contact cleaner..as many of us who read your plight have been down this very slippery slope can tell you,..the coulum switch issue is pandemeic..if you do decide to tackle the switch..this problem has been covered to death in the 308 forum..don't sand electrical contacts..clean them with Q-tips and a good cleaner..you will hate life if you break the switch or take it apart without reading these forums..hope this helps.."Good night and good luck"..Jacques

Hey thanks guys for all the help. I'd sort of dismissed the relay as the problem b/c the problem is only on left signal but I will replace before I do anything else...easy and cheap enouch to try. For those of you who've dealt with this issue can you spray contact cleaner effectively onto the contact points with the switch in situ or do I have to pull it first?

In situ Use a plastic-safe airasol spray cleaner ..use the little tube..remove carpets first and place a towel on the floor..for all of the obvious reasons do... the three coonectors in the column also..the can be villainous..odds are that this has been a problem for the previous owner(s).

So yesterday I bought some contact cleaner, sprayed it in and at the turn signal base. I worked the switch several time and voila problem solved. Drove the car last night and the switch works like new. Now on to those window switches... Thanks again for all your help.
