Weird thread but if you were going to buy a silencer for a H&K MP-5 would you get a Striker 2? We are trying to figure out the best silencer for this weapon. If you can understand this thread respond please.

just curious, what could you possibly need a "suppressor" for besides assassinating someone?

Same reason most cars don't have open headers..... so you don't have to wear earplugs, suppressors make it much more comfortable to shoot. They also provide a measure of recoil reduction that is nice on the larger rifles.

There is a full auto night at our local indoor range and you are required to have a suppressor if you have a full auto.
They aren't silencers, like the ones in the movies. Suppressors do exactly what Mark said.

no its a $200.00 tax stamp for the permission to posses the silencer.

one can "silence" a .22, one can "supress" anything else in a larger caliber.

For the same reason you need a muffler on a car besides to run somebody down.

To reduce the sound from a defining and DANGEROUS 160+db down to around 100db or so (still quite loud, but more neighborly.)

Surefire's M4 suppressor has been getting rave reviews.

I just moved to Arizona from California with a long list of needs. Whats the true wait on suppressors, full auto, destructive devices? Three to six months is what I have read, but can you really belive what you read on line?:)

MP5 w/ silencer? Scary. Remind me never to piss you off.

I figure if I am going to shoot someone,it will be in self defensive, thus I want everyone to hear it, that way hopefully someone will call the cops.

I still dont get it unless your range or club requires it. When I go shooting, I love the sound.

With the recent move to WVA, the wait times have improved. I got my Colt Thompson 1921AC approved in 5 days from pending ! Its worth the wait, and besides, the value of your gun just goes up in the meantime.

    I have an MP5SD, integrally suppressed....beautiful !

Also have a Impuls II B&T Swiss suppressor for my HK .45 Tactical...

Other NFA stuff includes an HKG3 .308 full auto, Savage 1928A1 Tommy Gun, MAC10 .45 with suppressor, MP5SD, Colt Tommy 1921.

Pistols include hk .45, hk .40 compact, .44 S+W Magnum, Desert Eagle .50 cal

Sniper Rifles : Accuracy International AWSM .338 Lapua Magnum with Schmidt Bender Scope (accurate to 1600yds +), Police Model 700 Remington Sniper Rifle with Nikon Scope...

guess you could say I'm a gun collector...

Being into guns, but somewhat ignorant of the issue, I'm guessing there is a differenct between a Silencer and a Suppressor - both functionally and legally. Silencers are Govt.-controlled items, but suppressors are not? Please explain....

Don't quote me, because I really don't know anything...

There is a difference between a silencer and suppressor. It's just like the names imply. Silencers silence the sound and suppressors, suppress the sound. Suppressors just make the sound bearable to shoot indoor and as mark stated, they also reduce the recoil. The difference is in the construction.

I don't know anything about the laws regarding Silencers/suppressors. I thought all silencers were illegal and suppressors required the tax that was mentioned above.
