OK, I figured out the exhaust squeak on my F430 isn't from the bypass valves, but rather from the bracket that joins the two tailpipes together for stability. The bolts holding the bracket are extremely tight, but they still squeak when you 'hand shake' the outer tail pipe. Of course, it is much, much worse when the engine is actually running!

Taking these bolts off would be quite a job, and one that I wouldn't want to tackle, since this would mean removing various panels and such.

Can I simply apply a high-temperature grease (something good to 2500F) to the bolts? Think this might solve the problem simply and quickly? I can reach these fairly easily reaching down through the engine compartment, so I'm hoping somebody else thinks this might be a good thing to try.

    Thanks for any advice!

I suspect that upon closer examination you will find that support is broken.

It seems to be a common thing and would bet that after replacing a thousand or so under warranty that it will be redesigned.

there is a technicial campaign (#163) that adresses the problem you have. I suggest you contact the dealer and have them rectify the problem.

SUBJECT: Tailpipe Adjustment - Campaign 163
For your information, all F 430 vehicles from the start of production up to and including VIN 144905 (assembly number 62050) are involved in a service campaign to replace a bracket and adjust the exhaust tailpipes. This campaign will help minimize the possibility of excessive stress on the tailpipes that could possibly cause noises or rattles in the exhaust system.

    best regards, Jim

My VIN ends at 145157, so I wonder if this technical campaign #163 might still apply? It's a 2006, but maybe they still don't have it right?

So this is a regular service problem? That doesn't make me feel real good at this point.

After using a small mirror and a flashlight, indeed the exhaust bracket IS broken; snapped in half right at the bolt.

Obviously, this seems like a weak part. Does Campaign 163 for this use a re-designed component?

    Thanks again for everything.

Campaign 173 not 163 ive done them a billion times.

yes campaign 173 uses different supporting brackets for the pipes themselves. and reinforced L brakcets.
