#40000 in "proto snorkel guise" was red. it was also red with black and red stripes seats in geneva 76 with clear turn signals on a early P111 type bumper. it didnt not have a urraco dash when unveiled at geneva in 76. an interesting note... i notice the snorkel cars had 3 "gto" like intake slots on the buttress. while the production cars had a bigger trapezoid cutout underneath side scoops. there was also a white or light colored silhouette displayed at the factory lamborghini stands but i dont know what year or which show? most interesting thread. thanks guys not a lot of P118 experts around hf
The protoypes can be identified by P300 style centre console with heater controls on the switch panel and clock/fuel guage in front of the driver. Production cars had the heater controls on the centre console and the clock on the switch panel. In the ILR photo 40002 indeed appears to have Urraco style window switches. Any other observations? BTW I speculate that the metal object is simply the base of a light for the photo
I have ony ever seen a b&w photo. Do you have a colour one? I am sure you know that early production cars also had the clear turn signals (also used on early chrome bumper Pantera) and the P111 bumper.
Serge Bellu's book "Tous les modeles annee par annee" or "Alle Modelle bis Heute" has b&w pictures of 40000 at Geneva '76. It looks just like the production cars. Road and Track magazine tested this car three weeks after the Geneva show and published the article in their August 76 issue.
no just b&W, i wish i had access to ludwigsons or coltrin photo archives. there is a series of custom built models in japan of most of the v8 prototypes, ie proto orange urraco with 4 blackout headlamps, urraco orange bob, jalpa blue spyder, jalpa gevena bronze show car...etc surprisingly they did the proto shil also. they have the car paint in red, with black out fender flares, blk hood and air snorkel. i have a couple pics of an another urraco test mule fitted with shil bravo wheels during that time besides the yellow one we all know about. it look to be red color though its hard to tell given the photo is b&w. it had wider bravos without the tacked on fender flares. could this be#40000 before the transformation? i have a few color photos of #40000 at geneva i found off the net, sorry i can post here my attachment box if full. maybe i put them up on lamb talk? cheers
Many thanks - all very interesting stuff! I think we would all like access to those archives and the Japanese seem to take the V8s seriously - well done them! Is the current whereabouts of 40000 known? And who knows anything about the white car pictured at the 30th Anniversary? There is a photo on "the factory" thread.
i dont know much about that white car but PM me with your email address i can send you a rear view pic if you like... strange silh with a wing and painted chrome urraco bumpers cheers hf
From the pictures Ive seen for the 30th Anniversary there were 2 Silhouettes. One car had number 45 the other number 47. I was told that the sequence of the number was according to the production date or delivery date (the oldest car had the lowest number). The car with number 47 must be #40106 as it has a back spoiler and white colored rims. The car with number 45 has the same characteristics as #40054, therefore I believe its that car.
There are not that much pictures for that car. Probably the same picture as I used for #40106 in the group picture. Last and only trace Ive for that car is in 1993, at the 30th Anniversary.
I'm pretty sure that 40046 was there too - the one with those curious body strakes. You are correct about oldest car having the lowest number. The 350 GTV was #1. My 1975 Tahiti Blue P300 was #37. I also agree with your observations about 400054 and 400106.
I have just been looking through my slides of the 30th anniversary and I have discovered another Silhouette! It is silver with silver non-California mirrors and silver wheels and bears the event number 46. I have two shots. One taken at the side of the factory the other outside the F1 workshop. As luck would have it both pictures are taken side on and are partially obscured. The car appear to have X/19 style front running lights - same shape as the US running lights but with a round lens in the middle. Can't see the rear part of the car in either picture. Any ideas about the identity of this one? Oh and as far as the oldest first numbering sequence is concerned I believe this to have been intended but cannot be expressly relied upon as I have a picture of a 400S Countach with a number lower than my P300! Perhaps the owner had registered an earlier car for the event that could't make it - who knows.

The "official" record of participants at the event record 3 Silhouettes: 1. 40062 from Germany (red) 2. 40080 from Rome (silver) and 3. ? from Orinda California (Purple metallic) I'd say this was Jim Heady's Silhouette No doubt there may have been others that turned up. There are photo's of the silver car on page 117 of volume 2 of the "Lamborghini review" by Automobilia edited by Pasini. It seems to have colour coded Vitaloni Turbo's rather than Californian mirrors
Among all P118 experts around, I'm surprised none has point the finger on the fact that Stefano Pasini was former of Silhouette registry many years ago, as he was also owning one of them #40054, belonging now to Lambo museo. Since he lost interest in Lambo stuff, what happen to his list ?
Nothing, I mailed him years ago and never got an answer, his uncomplete registry is reflected in the ILR.
At a certain stage Stefano Pasini had 31 survivors in his register, but Ive never seen the exact VINs for those 31 (f.e. were the Japanese cars included). Even today people refer to the number 31 and maybe its still correct but the VINs are not the same. Some disappeared and other missing cars popped-up. At the time Pasini made his register he was doing research on a 10-15 year old car, today were talking about a 30 year old car AND with the help of the internet. As mentioned in my first post I believe approximately 35 Silhouettes are surviving today, most of them in good till perfect condition.
Emilio and/or Raymond I assume you contacted him in Italian language? Ive contacted him in English but apparently his English is poor, thought that was the reason why he never replied.
Has anyone seen any photos of 40062 and the car from Orinda at the event? BTW I have now been shown another photo of the silver car and to my surprise it has a rear wing - it was not visible in my pictures - to say that my photos were partially obscured was an understatement! Can you tell me if the picture on page 117 of V2 review shows the wing and the number [47]? So, if this is correct this means SIX cars were present! 40046 [44] Germany with sidestrakes (photo seen) 40054 [45] Italy White ex Pasini (photo seen) 40080 [46] Rome Silver with wing (photo seen) 40106 [47] Italy White with wing and curious bumpers (photo seen) plus (no photos) 40062 [??] Germany Red [??] USA Purple metallic from Orinda California perhaps Jim Headys Silhouette
