Quick question on replacing some of old hoses/lines... I need to replace the 8 hoses between the throttle body and the plenum (#18 on this diagram) Ferrari F355 M5.2 (1996+) THROTTLE HOLDERS AND CONTROLS - Ricambi America, Inc. As you can see here as posted by Chris-CF355 (Thanks!! Great thread to help us newbie DIYers) replaced them with a silicone line... However, some of the silicone line manufacturer have a warning to NOT use their lines with oil and/or fuel... Are these lines solely for idle air injection, or do they get any oil/fuel in them as well? Safe to use silicon lines? Thanks!
I think what you really want in that application is a good quality vacuum hose, not a fuel hose. These won't see much pressure but might see vacuum when the throttles are closed? They don't need to resist fuel or oil but rather fuel and oil vapors. Silicone can work as a vacuum hose but is often not sturdy enough to do so.
Liquid fuel and oil or vapor fuel and oil are no different as far as rubber hose is concerned. Those hoses need to be fuel/oil tolerant. Most silicone hoses are not and many vacuum hoses are not either.
Yeah, I probably could have worded that better. I was trying to express that fuel hose is designed to resist bursting from high internal pressure, and vacuum hose is designed to not get sucked closed. My thinking was fuel resistant vacuum hose would be better for this application than fuel hose? But, also in the diameter we are talking about this may be completely academic and fuel hose would work fine?
