Silicone coolant hoses for the 360's

Would anyone be interested in new silicone coolant hoses for their 360. Spoke with a company about making them and would like to know if anyone else might be interested. There would be some tooling to make.

 

Question: What is the advantage of making your own hoses?

 

Are they willing to make all the different size and length for the 360?

 

silicon hoses won't burst like the belted ones. they are more expensive. you can expect longer life than OEM hoses.

 

Ordered some intake couplings for my carbon intake tops from a hose company, and then asked if they made silicone coolant hoses for the 360. He told me no, but would like to get into this. He told me if I paid for the tooling that he would make them and could sell them under my shop name. So to offset the cost of the tooling I was asking if anyone else would like some. They can make them in red, blue or usuall black 4 ply. If you buy silicone hoses you should never ever have to replace them ever again and they should not burst like some of the other chatters have found out.

They would make the complete set from the radiators back to the 3 elbows on the engine.

 

The best coolant hoses available which far exceed OEM are being produced by Dave Helms-Scuderia Rampante in Boulder, CO. Give him a call and see if he has what you need.

 

Don't forget the intake couplings (I assume your talking about the corrugated items) are pretty poor for airflow restrictions, creating 'eddies' in the airstream upsetting it resulting in reduced power. By replacing just those alone you should see a 5hp gain at the wheels!

 

your logic is likely correct, but not necesarily so.

the dimples on a golf ball create an eddy which prevents air flow from sticking in an attached laminar flow condition, and instead trips it into turbulence, which allows the airstream to break away from the ball while in flight and thereby induce less drag.

dimpled balls fly further.

have you seen dyno results to demonstrate the 5hp?

Yes, dyno proven, it was actually 5rwhp gain, after several back to back dyno tests.

Some challenge teams also removed the metal mesh off the afm's for even less restrictions too and then there's other tricks such as smoother flow airboxes (usually made from cf - the original aluminum covers aren't so air efficient), machining the throttle bodies and larger afm's, ceramic heat coating the headers (to speed up the gas escape), straight thru anti-cat pipes, reflective heat shielding on the airboxes, etc, etc.

I have talked with Dave and he does not have anything for the 360. Hence that's why I asked this other place about making them.

 

That is how my engine will look after I install the hoses I bought.

 

I did not forget about them, I also removed the screen from the AFM that restricts air to the intake.

I guess no one is interested in the silicon hoses for their 360 since not many replied???

I know Dave Helms makes a great product and I know he wants to make them, it's just the cost for the tooling that's holding him back as he told me. I realize that my coolant hoses are 8 years old right now and plan to do something soon before something happens. The oem units are well over $1100.00 for the complete set of rubber hoses.

 

The tooling was started this week for the 360's....Cant make everything else and then bypass this model, in for a penny, in for a pound.

The market for these hoses is a good 2-3 years out yet I suspect as the OEM hoses are silicone already. The design of the OEM hoses has a fair amount of planned obsolecence built in but even at that those have proven fairly reliable all thing considered. In the case of the 360, special consideration has to be given to other engine components when the hose design changes... there are unique design issues to be delt with on this model when one wants to improve the hoses.

The 456/550 tooling is near done and when that is off the mill, the 360 (2000 and up, Im not going to bother with 99 only hose sets) tooling will start, the CAD work is near done and drawings should be ready by mid next week.

With every major hose in the whole car being molded and requiring tooling to be made for each...... $1100 is a pretty darn good deal! If price is the motivation, buy the OEM, its likely cheaper than what I will end up with.
