Well Albon has been set up to succeed or fail and in total disaster fashion if he does fail with Latifi as team-mate LOL. One thinks Latifi learned a bit or 2 from Russell!
Let's hope Albon can keep the momentum going that Russell started. Good luck Williams. The bottom line is that with any team it's all about the quality of the car and the ability and know how of the team to push the development process.
Well, so much for Albon at Alfa and Toto influence at Williams. There might be something in what Sky were saying about RBR lining up to supply Williams with their PU eventually. Pretty sure Merc will keep De Vries in FE and were just trying to f with RBR’s plan for Albon. Also, having already placed Bottas at Alfa, don’t think Merc influence (if they even did influence Alfa) will extend to getting De Vries in there also. Alfa will probably stick with GIO unless someone shows up with a suitcase full of $$$.

Asked about Albon’s status with Red Bull from next year following the announcement, Williams F1 boss Jost Capito said: “What I can tell you is that he is a Williams driver in 2022. Whatever that means is up to you. “Maybe you have to ask Red Bull, but for us he is a Williams driver and that is it.” But Red Bull clarified via a spokesperson that while Albon had been released, there were still links in place between the two parties. “We have released Alex to become a Williams Racing driver in 2022, but retain a relationship with him that includes future options,” the statement reads. Albon’s signing also shuts off a possible seat for Mercedes Formula E driver Nyck de Vries next year, but Capito said that Wolff understood the decision. “I think Toto at the end, he understands and we understand that we are not a B-team and we are not a satellite team,” Capito said.
I believe he's aware of that. @johnireland was just correcting which outfit you were distinguishing regarding the Mercedes engine. You responded with the team Alpha(meaning Tauri who are supplied by Honda) and @johnireland was just correcting you-->meaning you meant to say Alfa(Romeo).
Alfa Romeo waiting for "clearer picture" from F2 before naming F1 line-up By: Adam Cooper Sep 9, 2021, 7:29 AM Alfa Romeo boss Fred Vasseur says he is waiting for a "clear picture" from the Formula 2 championship before deciding on who fills his team's second Formula 1 seat.
Are they waiting for Pourchaire ? If so it would be very surprising because Vasseur said few months ago that Pouchaire will do a second year in Formula 2.
Tsunoda gets an extension. But, he was worried. https://racer.com/2021/09/09/tsunoda-feared-for-his-seat-after-crashes-inconsistency/?fbclid=IwAR21lvsYmelfMBnyLGOQg-J4SBD7cb8alzLFUuxZAHoNL1D9zqvZwVW5AAE
Formula 1 / Italian GP News Wolff: ‘Very strict and clear’ clauses in Albon’s contract protect Mercedes By: Luke Smith Sep 11, 2021, 7:48 AM Toto Wolff says there are “very strict and clear” clauses in Alex Albon’s Williams contract for 2022 to protect Mercedes’ Formula 1 power unit IP. Image Unavailable, Please Login Williams announced on Wednesday that it had signed current Red Bull reserve driver Albon for a full-time seat next year, partnering Nicholas Latifi. Mercedes F1 boss Wolff had previously said it would be “tricky” to have a Red Bull-affiliated driver at a Mercedes customer team, particularly with Red Bull becoming a power unit manufacturer from next season. Wolff said at Zandvoort last weekend that Albon would have to be released from his Red Bull contract for Mercedes to work with him at Williams. Red Bull revealed after the Williams announcement that it had released Albon, but retained a relationship with “future options” to work together. Speaking on Friday at Monza, Wolff said he felt no frustration over Williams’ decision to sign Albon, making clear that confidentiality clauses had been worked into the Anglo-Thai driver’s contract to protect Mercedes’ power unit IP. “We always respected the authority of choosing its drivers for a team,” Wolff said. “I was at Williams, and I would have not wanted anybody to interfere in our driver decision. And in the same way, we have no contractual rights that we could have or would have utilised, because I don’t think it’s right to meddle with the team’s decision on drivers. “What was important for us is if a driver from another power unit manufacturer joins the team then there is very strict and clear IP confidentiality clauses. “That was always in great harmony with Williams, they know exactly where we are coming from and what is important to protect.” Image Unavailable, Please Login Toto Wolff, Team Principal and CEO, Mercedes AMG Photo by: Steve Etherington / Motorsport Images Wolff added that Mercedes had “absolutely” secured the clauses it wanted in Albon’s contract, saying: “He is basically a Williams driver for the next 12 months. He has no links to Red Bull during that time.” Red Bull team principal Christian Horner previously revealed Williams was Albon’s preferred team for 2022, having also attracted interest from Alfa Romeo, and said there was also a “keen desire” in the opposite direction. “I have to say our dealings with [Williams] were very straightforward,” Horner said. “There were a few little obstacles on the way but I was delighted that we're able to get a good outcome for Alex, for Williams and for Red Bull.” Wolff felt glad that Albon had secured an F1 comeback, having been dropped at the end of 2020 by Red Bull’s senior team to make room for Sergio Perez as Max Verstappen’s team-mate. “To be honest, I absolutely am supportive, even though it’s none of my business, of Alex Albon,” Wolff said. “He deserves to be in F1, he’s a great guy, and I’m happy for him that he’s in the car. “He’s there, he didn’t get a place in AlphaTauri or in Red Bull, but he’s at Williams now and hopefully stay there for a long time.” https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/wolff-very-strict-and-clear-clauses-in-albons-contract-protect-mercedes/6664945/
Many Red Bull drivers were dropped before the end of the season. But seems like Tsunoda is a Honda protegè.
