I have an '81 308 2v and looking for another, possibly an '85 qv. I read theres not that much difference other than more power. The qv has higher miles but have records and maintenance. Am I getting in over my head? My '81 is fine and is a rare dark blue. Recessions are great for some people.

No...if you can afford it. Just get the best one you can find. If you have a B get an i, etc ? If the blue is original/rare pamper it and use the QV as a driver...or better yet get a 328.

I can appreciate why you'd do it -- I have a nice 328 and sometimes I wish had a second one that was equally good mechanically but more of a 'driver'.

But, I'd say try something different. If I had the garage space, I'd probably get a 550 to go with the 328, and just 'use up' the 550 during the week and save the 328 for shows and occasional weekend drives.

This sounds quite familiar, Jon. I hope you get the chance to do just that. The 550 can take it.

    bigdreamer,

BigTex will no doubt give his comments tomorrow when he sees this thread. He's got three 308s....in the primary colors.

Buy whatever car you want and as many as you want. Anyone that doesn't like it can kiss your 2 Ferraris in your driveway's as$

I have owned an 84 308 QV for the past 10 years. My all time end-all be-all favorite car in the history of this universe is the 1982 Ferrari 308 GTSi. I getting one before I'm dead - for a total of two 308's

(please don't try to tell me about everything that's wrong with that car. I don't care, it's not about that)

I had a 77 GTB and 87 GTS together for a while. Made a good combo. Also made me a B guy from then on. Also had an 85 GTB with a 94TB for quite a while and the 85 GTB with my current 89 GTB for about 8 months. If I were to have 2 308's, one would have to be carbed and the other a QV. Ideally, one would be an S and the other a B. In any event, it's a hobby, buy what makes YOU happy!

I don't know: Two of essentially the same car? I would play the field a little. There are plenty of other Italians out there. . .

I've had the same kinda thoughts as you. My idea of having two centers on the idea of having a blue 308. I fell in love with the 308 as a child in red but everytime i see a blue one i'm in love.

Not a silly idea at all.

Here's the advice from my Favorite Wise Uncle I use, now that Dad is gone:

I use that as evaluation on any material purchases.....

    Well said BT!

I was considering adding another 308 to my garage someday, but lately the Ducati bug has bitten me bad, so my focus is a bit shifted.... for better or worse. Heck, they're cheaper to purchase and maintain, at least!

If I had the 'means', I wouldn't own just two - I'd buy every eBay basket-case 308 I could find and restore them all to concourse standards. That might require 2-4 new garage spaces per month?

That's too funny....I keep eyeing the 500s when they turn up on ebay even thought each cylinder in the v12 I'm building for the 308 is almost as big the the whole 500 engine (it think they'll be 458) :)
