I understand about the center vent. My questions now are about the 2 side vents near the doors. Dave suggested there are tabs on all 4 sides of each vent. His pic of the driver's side vent seems to show one near the bottom right side corner. It would help to know where they all are. Any pics of these?

I'll pull one out later and take pictures of all sides.

 

My right vent was not sitting properly in the opening so here it is.

Lets use the terms window side and radio side so as to not confuse left and right when speaking of the left and right vents in the car.

Note the broken tab on the top window location on mine.

The location of the four vents are as follows:

Top of the vent window side corner
Top of the vent, radio side corner
Lower side of the vent, radio side
Bottom of the vent, window side corner

The two tabs on the window side, top and bottom are appendages that will be prone to breakage on removal. The other two are more molded into the body of the vent and sturdier.

I think releasing those window side tabs first would be best then work your way around the vent and take what it gives you. I am going to try and epoxy that broken tab but am not optimistic it will hold.

Thanks Bob. Pics tell a thousand words. Hearing you and Dave talk about this, you guys both make it seem like these come right out....no big deal. After I try it, I'll see if I agree.

Hope you get the repaired tab to hold. But I agree, epoxy on plastic, especially where you're going to put some stress on it, may not hold. Much better would be a solvent type "glue" made for "welding" plastic. It has to be the right type for the plastic you're working with and I don't know what type the vents are made from but it actually "melts" the plastic surface and literally "welds" the break back together. AFAIK, its as strong as the plastic itself. Good luck.
