Okay chaps, I've got my hands on a Santander hospitality ticket for the race, with viewing at the abbey corner, appropriate for Santander (owning the abbey brand). It comes with a car pass, and so I want to take the 599. However, does anyone know if the car passes are for hard parks, or grass parks? Or is it dependent on the ticket, so I need to contact silverstone itself?

Anyhow, if anyone else is going race day, we could try to align ourselves and get into that elusive owners forum at the same time?

So no one is going to silverstone this year on this board? Crikey, times must be tough

If anyone is looking to (not to hijack the thread), but I have one ticket available.

I will be there and will be sitting in the Becketts Grand Stand.

We had people who went to Monaco so it is not about the economics.

Having been to both I have no desire to ever go back to Silverstone

I sat in Village last year - at least, I did on Sunday. Friday was spent entirely sitting in the car on the A43 - for a solid eight hours. For that reason, to quote Duncan Bannatyne, I'm out.

    Ouch! :(

In (somewhat) their defence (English here! ;)), IIRC, they did suggest you not even try & get there on Friday(?)

Or did Fridays disaster prompt that action on Saturday?

I've said many times, the only way to do Silverstone is via chopper.......

    Cheers,
    Ian

Yup. I learned that the hard way too.

    Once was enough though.

Not that I've ever done it that way though!

Arrive Thursday, pitch the tent (in, invariably, mud) and hang out till Monday was our mantra.

    I was younger then. ;)

Having said that, I'm going out of town this W/E! Cell phones are sketchy at best! I suspect they can't spell "wi-fi"...... Gonna be fun returning to the DVR on Monday...... ;)

    Cheers,
    Ian

Don't worry, I was being a bit faciscious, as no one had replied at all.

Glad to see a few people plan on get in there. I haven't been to the gp since the year the nutter walked on the track (early 2000's), but been there lots for Ferrari events and track days. Not looking forward to the traffic, and am a bit worried that if I get stuck, the 599 is not exactly a car that likes sitting there getting hot. Had an mot on Tuesday and aft 15 minutes of running, warnings came on about water temps!

It was only the Saturday when people were advised not to turn up.

I completely understand that they cannot do anything about the weather, but the way they dealt with it was unforgivable. They should have started turning traffic around as soon as they realised there was a problem, as happens when a motorway is closed. Instead, it was left to back up and anyone stuck in the jam was trapped until they sorted out access to the car parks.

My plan for this year's F1 fix is to drive to Belgium for the Spa GP, then head to Italy (via the Stelvio pass!) for a few days up at the lakes, go to the Monza GP and then come back. I did something similar last year, but flew to Barcelona between races. Spa is a better track than Silverstone and Monza has a better atmosphere. Sorry Silverstone :-(

    You lost me at Spa.

Citing traffic jams as the reason to choose Spa over Silverstone sounds to me like picking death by strangulation over dismemberment.

I'd love to go to Spa but I'm terrified of its infamous traffic jams and lack of hotel infrastructure. Which is why I never went there. Silverstone was bad enough.

As for Monza: Yup, that one is a walk in the park. Literally.

The secret with Spa is to stay quite a way out from the circuit, get the train to Verviers, then hop off the shuttle bus on the circuit approach.

To be fair to Silverstone, it would have been fine if we'd not had the car - FP could clearly be heard from the jam.

That's what I thought - I added the second paragraph PDQ!....

Fair enough. My impression (from half a world away!) was there was a complete communication breakdown and nobody "took charge" of the mess; "Not my job" etc etc. :(

Hopefully, many lessons learnt and we won't see a repeat.....

    Enjoy Spa & Monza!

    Cheers,
    Ian

Heli is the way to do Silverstone

It's also a nice way for Monaco but less required

This year might actually be a less worse year to do Silverstone:

The promoter is concerned that many British fans won't come because neither Button nor Hamilton have a realistic chance at winning.

The fewer the crowds the more pleasant the experience.

Americans still packed the house and we don't even have a driver in the show!
