Confused. How can the original rebody in 1964 by Scaglietti be wrong and what do you consider right ?
Thanks Kare Dont forget, Classische were the arbiter on this one so it must be right and the new owner has a certificate to prove it ! Unzipping would be gratefully received Kim
Knowing that Classiche was involved does not make me less worried, quite the opposite. It is a business: they are in it for the money. Would be interesting to see the contents of the Classiche folder. Best wishes, Kare
How true ! Sadly the trend is that owners or better described as investors demand a Classiche Certification before purchase. Certification is also increasingly used as a prerequisite for events. As you say. That's business but not nessesarily good business for the top quality indepenant restorer Kim
Thanks. What's he trying to do? He's painted a great fleet of cars white then resells them to get his dream car and now sells that!? What am I missing? Did he buy another GTO?
He is a genuine and true enthusiast, not precious about his cars and has an eclectic collection of over 40 predominantly Ferrari. Thankfully he is no longer painting them all white. Both the 860 Monza and GTO went this year. No new GTO but he did buy the original Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. He may be a bit eccentric but he has a great heart. Raises millions every year for Children in Need with his car events, including this one with Jody Scheckter and I giving hot laps around Thruxton in his Enzo and Monza. No prizes for guessing who came last ! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thank you kindly for this info. And sorry for de-railing this thread. Incredible how he still has 40 plus Ferrari's! I had read he cleared house Oh and great guy doing great things for those kids!!!
What we do have to bear in mind here is that no 2 of these cars were exactly the same and the question we should ask is, is that partly or mainly due to the traditional fabricating process? So allowing for this, even though a newly manufactured nose or other body parts using these traditional methods may best try to achieve an exact copy of the original, there may be some inevitable variation?
I had the incredible opportunity to see, hear and photograph 4675 GT last year (end of August) Via Musso along the wall of the factory. Fred. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes hand built but wrong shape. Maybe the new owner did want this shape/nose or maybe even Classiche dept. Look at all old 64 factory and racing photos.
Be very very very carefull when judging 3D shapes in photographs! I think the current nose is very correct for a 1964 - (as far as I can judge, which is not very accurately!) - but I am still very sorry for the restoration to take this path. I really liked the funky looks of the car as raced in 1965-66 - and the thought of a 25 million hot rod really makes me drool! Best wishes, Kare
Im not of the same opinion. When having tons of photos, one can do a better job. But it is what it is now. Look at 5575GT it is even worse... Is there any passion or making only fast money...
I qualify having a ton of photos, but I really am not sure what to think (not that it would make much difference anyway!)
