    My contribution:

    Stand in kitchen.
    Bread (sliced thick).
Place in toaster until it's no longer soft.
    Find knife.
Butter... apply to warmed no longer soft bread.
Stuff warmed no longer soft buttered bread into your manly chewing hole.
    Swallow.
Feel slightly fuller than you were a minute ago.
Repeat until full or sick of warmed no longer soft buttered bread.
    Plates are optional.

Thanks Jason, I'm going to try that next time I have a steak. :)

I normally like my steaks rare, but somehow never quite manage to do them right at home. I somehow tend to end up overcooking them while still failing to get them above fridge temperature in the middle. I'll try it exactly your way first, however if doing it slightly rarer would you recommend reducing the pan time or the oven time?

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Took 2 pork loins and flattened them.

In a pan, sauteed spinach and removed

    rendered bacon and removed

sauteed a whole onion and 4 cloves of garlic (minced)

Added about 1/3 cup of bread crumbs...

    All mixed together in bowl.

    Next:

All spread evenly on the flattened pork loin with gorgonzola cheese, rolled up and tied.

Pan seared on all sides then around 1 cup of white wine added.

Into the oven for 40 minutes at 375

    Voila, Pork Loin Florentine! :):)

Andrew - the absolute key to a proper rare steak is to make sure your meat is up to room temperature BEFORE cooking.

You cannot take meat out of the fridge and make a decent rare or medium rare steak.

Depending on the cut and how you have them packaged, it can take quite a while, best to open them up and cover separately till the warm up.

with a nice room temp steak of 3/4-1 inch, a quick sear on both sides is very rare, 10 min in the hot oven after the sear will be medium, etc. - figure what you want from there.

The Scottish love anything on toast. :D Scrambled eggs, beans, cheese, purées/spreads, foie gras, etc... I'm with them on the scrambled eggs, but I'm not a fan of spreads or foie gras.

Thanks Jason, I'll check it out.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Pizza Soup. Ok not really a MAN recipe but the boy in you will love it. Great for kids.

Found here and it is really great we had it tonight. It tastes like Pizza in a bowl!

    http://www.cdkitchen.com/recipes/recs/329/Chunky_Pizza_Soup_Canada22800.shtml

    Ingredients:
    1 tablespoon Oil, vegetable
    1 Onion, chopped small
    1/2 cup Mushrooms, sliced
    1/4 cup Green peppers, slivered
    1 cup Tomatoes, undrained
    1 cup Stock, beef
    1 cup Pepperoni, thin sliced
    1/2 teaspoon Basil, dried
    1 cup Cheese, mozzarella shredded

    Directions:

Preheat oven broiler. Heat oil over medium heat, stirfry onion, mushroom and green pepper till soft, not browned. Add tomatoes, stock, pepperoni and basil, cook till heated through. Ladle soup into ovenproof bowls and sprinkle with cheese. Broil till cheese melts and is bubbly.

We had it with a side of garlic bread for dunking. Pretty darn good if you like Pizza.

What kind of fish will this taste well with? Orange roughy? Rainbow trout? I'm guessing salmon's etc have too much of their own taste?

I need to cook tonight I'm thinking of doing this and the KDS ricotta desert.

    Man food.

    Are you a man?

    Do you eat beef?

    Do you want low carb?

Do more than 4 ingredients confuse you?

    Do you have a crockpot?*

    Yes?

Here it is, lucky bachelor, 4 ingredients. Maybe 5***

4-5 lb sirloin roast ($3.99/ lb at Publix this week)

    Olive oil

    Lipton French onion soup mix

    Sour cream

    Red wine**

    Thusly:

Cut up the sirloin roast into cubes. Take the best center cut steak and grill it for lunch while you do the rest.

Brown the meat in olive oil with black pepper and garlic if available.

Mix up the sour cream, wine and soup mix.

Put it all in the crock pot.

    Done.

    Thank me later.

*Re: crockpot. Even if you are the most determined bachelor in the world, this is worth your $25 at Target.

**Yes, I said FOUR ingredients, but wine would count as the 5th ingredient, except I hope it is so ubiquitous that we view it like water or salt and assume any self respecting bachelor has last night's bottle sitting there.

*** Put over white rice if you are not watching carbs and if you have an extra pot and $0.79 for the rice.

    Simple.

Peel back the husks on an ear of corn, leaving them attached. Wrap that ear of corn in a slice of bacon and replace the husks. Tie off tip with a spare strip of husk. Grill. Enjoy!

I've been playing around with a protein shake recipe. I've only made of each version and it still needs tweaking a bit, but this is what I've got so far...

    ~600mL Protein Shake:
    • 200g fat free Greek-style yoghurt
    • 150g fat free cottage cheese (no added salt)
    • 100g fresh strawberries - stems removed
    • 100mL skimmed milk (<0.1% fat) - use less if you want it thicker
    • (Optional: 50mL no suggar added double-strength concentrated summer fruits diluting juice - gives stronger and sweeter flavor)
    • Blended thoroughly

    Nutritional information:
    • 273 calories (or 281)
    • 34.2g protein
    • 29.6g carbohydrates (or 30.6g)
    • 2.0g fat

It tastes ok, although the finish is a little dry and savory without the extra diluting juice. The version with 50mL concentrate might be a little excessive, so the optimum is somewhere in between. I may substitute the Greek-style fat free yoghurt for just plain fat free yoghurt next time to see if that helps. Also, perhaps a fruit with a stronger taste than strawberries - cherries or raspberries perhaps - might negate the necessity for, or require less, diluting juice.

It's cheap, filling, and healthy (supporting a workout lifestyle), which is the whole point. Any suggestions for recipe adjustments? :)

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Every Day I have this shake for lunch and it's Paleo (No wheat, diary, sugar) approved since I've been on that nutrition plan for nearly a year. Of course, you can make substitutions if desired:

    1 cup almond milk
    1 scoop egg white protein
    1 tablespoon cashew butter
    1 banana
    1 handful organic baby spinach

Warning: It's so thick I have to eat it with a spoon.
