The Hispania Racing team has been fined $20,000 for the incident in which a mechanic was injured during the Italian GP.

A mechanic from the Spanish squad had to be taken to the medical centre after being knocked down by the right rear wheel of Sakon Yamamoto's car as the Japanese drove out following his stop.

The "lollipop" had been lifted for Yamamoto to move before the mechanic had finished working on the car.

As a consequence of the incident, the team was fined $20,000 for the unsafe release of its driver.

I find this odd...how many times we've seen top teams do this, but no one was fined. New ruling?

They have been fined for "unsafe release of its driver", not for injuring the mechanic. We have seen it before this season. http://www.cbssports.com/autoracing/story/13364574/ferrari-fined-20k-after-alonsos-near-collision-with-mercedes-rosberg/rss

But, I think he's got it right - "Unsafe release" is the catchall they use..... Weren't Ferrari fined for the great fuel-rig screw up last year? Renault also for releasing Fred with only three wheels attached? I'm sure there are others, but can't remember now if/how much they were fined.

    Cheers,
    Ian

The incident was pretty brutal, im not surprised the FIA felt the need to get involved.

See it here before the FOM takes it down ( its not for the faint hearted) ...

    It sure is.

Its also amazing how much forward energy the F1 car produces in what looks half a foot of movement. I wonder what its velocity was when it clipped the mechanic, as he was really thrown..

I think its 100% right that FIA got involved in this, as its was a serious safety issue, and safety is number one on the FIA's agenda.
