"After fears raised by the Grand Prix Drivers' Association the organisers of the forthcoming Singapore Grand Prix have announced a revised timetable.

While the race was always scheduled to take place at night, the practice sessions and qualifying were due to take place slightly earlier. This difference in time, and the corresponding difference in the lighting led to fears regarding safety.

Now, just three weeks before the event, the organisers have revealed that the Friday practice sessions will take place at 19.00 and 21.30, while the Saturday session will also get underway at 19.00

Qualifying will begin at 22.00 on Saturday, with the Grand Prix getting underway at 20.00 on Sunday."

I didn't even think about the race being run so late on Sunday their time. I wonder if, in the future, they'll look at running it on Saturday night like they do with races in the States.

Sorry to be lazy, but how does this convert to USA ET? Is Sunday there actually Monday here?

Ron, they are 12 hours ahead of us. As I type this it is about 10:07 am eastern time and they are at 10:07 pm Wed.
So it looks as though we will be watching it at 8am eastern or the same time as the last 5 or so races.

    Exactly.
The best time for their important prime viewing TV audience, as Bernie stresses.
Even 2 hours earlier isn't good enough he says and australia must change or lose its GP.
What I get loud and clear is the aussie and US audience don't count much in Bernie's balance sheet.
Would Indy run a GP at 8:00 AM the time that Bernie insists for the Oz GP to allow live viewing to his TV audience?
I can't see Bill France wearing that or paying enough to balance out a deal for Bernie and the FIA .
Although for the first time since live TV sales began, this year FIA income from GP fees exceeded that from their broadcast rights. So there's a tiny hope FOM's TV might lose some of its over-riding power to dictate race locations and schedules in the future. A lot of money goes to light a GP. Half the amount could buy a whack of extra FIA influence. lol
    BE can't live for ever.
    One day a US GP.

They were testing the lighting on the circuit last night for the first time and I must admit I was a little surprised that it wasn't as bright as I had expected, especially in some of the corners. Admittedly not all the lighting is in place (not until the road closures are in place) as yet so that may improve things somewhat. Overall preparation are really taking shape and it is starting to look like a real race track. Can't wait 'til Sept 28!

    Hey Derek,

Were you close to the track when they were testing the lighting, or did u see it from afar? For some reason i was expecting the lighting to be like "day light" under the beams, i guess cause the amount talking thats been done about it ! I too can't wait for the race weekend, F1 cars blasting through city streets at night is going to be awsome !!
