How old are you? And what are your qualifications? It will be a good starting place to ask yourself what you want to do.

Wow, good mix of ownerships here in Sg. There's towkays, CEOs, CFOs, hawkers, restaurant owners, moneylenders, bankers, pilots, engineers, lawyers, landlords...you name it. It's not what you do but the best you do out of it even in a sunset industry. How can airlines not do well? Seletar coming up but few years later. The previous owner of my Fcar is in the Aerospace business!

I guess it doesn't really matter what you do, as long as we all share the same passion of Ferrari isn't it?

i am quarter of a century old, with tertiary education in IT/electronic engineering. experience-wise: sales, IT support, administrator, mechanic.

that would be aerospace business that's doing great. i thought airline handling industry would be booming too but i seem to be wrong.. due to new cost cutting measures, we even not entitled to stock options.. even my department's newspaper subscription is cancelled.. ouch.

main reasons are budget airline and competition here and the region. my managers recommend getting out while i still have not fully lost touch with my other skills. i'm not worried abt not being able to get a new job but dun want to have misconceptions abt another job like i did when i joined this industry.

Well, this is part of globalisation. Be prepared to travel, you'll be surprised to find interesting & enriching jobs overseas. My bro-in-law posted his resume online & was interviewed online, within 3months he's working for a US bank in Boston. Some found work in Mid-East while most are in China. I happened to receive a call from HK this week, guess what? A headhunter is helping the Beijing Ferrari agent to find a mechanic & desperate. Very good pay, company car etc. even I'm tempted but I no mechanic.

I think Ferrari ownership in CN is quite a daunting proposition IF your putonghua bu hao.. I had the experience owning a 993tt in Dalian, which fine city as it is, virtually nobody speaks english and when I wanted to tell the tyre shop guys that the car felt 'not right', it took me the best part of 30 minutes! Ivy helped me to translate but even that didn't help much. Trying to tell them to do an 'on-wheel' balancing and I had to actually go round the shop and look for the thingy with seats and spinnin' turntable until they caught my drift. Ferrari ? Gawd, most of these fellas don't even know how to write their name in alphabets, much less read english!

Parts ? Just write down the part number and say something's wrong with it, in Mandarin. " Bu Hao"....! Try sayin' it in English and you get the dumbstruck look. No wonder they're paying six digits figure......

Hehe want me to pm you the contact? Just give me some driving lessons as comm. ;)

Let's hope those China owners know how to take care of their ponies. Heard of many horror stories. There's this idiot who poured water instead of oil into the engine of his relatively new S600 in winter. Next morning, cranks the engine & it blows up. Calls Germany & those guys said our S600 engine is the best engineered, how can it blow?

Yep, those 'singin' and lan-sing' days in Shanghai especially. Those were the days when the Auburns, Caddies/Buicks and Hispano-Suizas were in rage. Not many Mercs though, from the picture-archives that I saw...And they speak English those days..Pidgin-Engrish...!

gd idea, maybe i'll try posting resume online too.

yeah, china and india are the up and coming places.. however, was quite surprised.. recently went for a walk-in interview session for a processor manufacturer and abt 90% there were indian nationals n philippines(maybe china too). but i guess that's how they bring home their experiences(and cash) and contribute to their country.

rite now eyeing a position as a customer service advisor for a car workshop for a major marque here.. no idea how's the pay though

    Hi
Does anyone know how I can get hold of Paul Smyth - associated with Ferrari in Singapore. He's been in Asia for about a year and I am keen to speak with him.
    Any thoughts much appreciated.
    Thanks!
