    Hello Everyone,

I have a question about converting a 1977 308 (twin distributer), to a single distributer.
When removing the (right bank) distributer, how is the camshaft distributer drive sealed off, so as not to loose oil pressure? Without the distributer in place, oil comes out of the end of the camshaft.
    Any help/direction would be appreciated.

    Sam

The end of the cam must be plugged. Either remove the spline drive (there is a pin in the cam journal which must be pushed out to remove the spline drive) and plug it or figure out a plug for the spline. Either way it requires a plug being custom made.

Any reason why you're going to a single distributor? Two work fine and there's a way to fire both banks with just one distributor thus using the one distributor curve and the other distributor only distributing spark.

Whether you have one or two distributors (on an originally two distributor 308), you should ensure that both of the cams are plugged per the change that they made in mid-1977:

Relying on just that o-ring to retain the full oil pressure was a design mistake IMO.

Thank you all for your replies…
Steve.. Can the plug be installed, and then re-assembled without the distributer..and just the cover plate?

You can put an S127 on the front and simply plus the front spline and install a gasket and cover over the triangular end of the head. Basically it’s the euro setup. I have a perfect full S127 distributor, cap and rotor if needed. Just PM me.

Hey Hannibal308… Thank you for the offer.. I already have all the required hardware.. My concern was sealing the vacant distributer drive once the distributer was removed… What Steve had offered up makes perfect sense… I will end up installing the plug in both(left and right bank), distributer drives, as currently they both are relying on the distributer O-ring to prevent the oil from escaping…
Thank you for your reply.. :)
