Thoughts on a Syndicate of 20 members for a single-engine Piper or Cessna- 20-year-old aircraft.

    Workable or Not ?

Used to be a lot of clubs in San Diego. Biggest one had over 400 members and 15-20 aircraft was on leaseback at any given time. Scheduling was never a problem, but you couldn’t just expect an aircraft to be available on demand.

In a small syndicate, I'd be concerned about some difficult person buying in and causing issues, as I've so often seen with friends in boat syndicates..

These clubs were set up as non-profit corporations. Plenty of rules. This the one I cwas a member of, and had an aircraft on leaseback.

If it is done right, I think it could be fine. There are lots of flying clubs, and I think AOPA has some guidance on best practices.
