I haven't found any direct confirmation on FIA's web site, but according to http://www.f1racing.net/en/news.php?newsID=52694 F1 will return to multi lap qualifying sessions as of Silverstone.

After today's penalty polka (Formula WWF?), this may be welcome news. I wonder about that "required" to run six laps bit, though. Just averaging exactly six runs means that one bad lap will still mess up grid spots. And there's no mention of suspending the one-engine rule, so six times the chances of going to the back.

Pity the USGP will still get the one lap deal. It was fun watching the teams trying to build speed by having the cars draft each other through the banked turn in 2000. ;)

I'd like to see it go closer to the old style myself.Seems like that's the direction they want to go just a little different.

I think no matter how qualifying on saturday is done as long as its the same rules for everyone it is fair. Right now the only teams complaining are Jordan and Minardi.

Jordan and Minardi complained in 2001 so the rules were changed in 2002. Then in 2002 they made a fuss so rules got changed in 2003. Then 2003 they are making a fuss so rules are being changed mid season.

Their main complaint is that they are small teams so they do not get enought TV coverage so they want single lap qualifying. What the hell... you will get TV coverage only if you are good. Build good cars, stop goofing around as back markers and get more sponsors. They want to rund with the big men and yet want the red carpet rolled out for them because they keep claiming they are small.

Team principal Eddie Jordan (Jordan) and Paul Stoddart (Minardi) are the biggest cry babies in F1. They are incapable of creating a good competitive car so the sit their and whine for not getting TV coverage of their cars.

Yeah lets change the qualification system again. guess what the Minardis and Jordans will still be pointless backmarkers when it comes down to it.
