Does anyone have an idea of the size of the vintage car market here in the US? Breakdown between European and American cars? We are hoping to get some sense of the market and its segments.

Well, I suppose one could tally up the dollar figure and unit volume of all of the relevant auction sales from the market segment you wanted to tabulate.

Then you could build a database of the private/dealer vehicles that are currently for sale based on the same criteria.

A coupe of days worth of work and you are done.......but I'd wait, as someone here will probably know the answer.

How many active, insured collector cars do you think are in the States?

I collect, and sometimes buy insurance....

I drove my new Ducati home in the rain last night without it, but once across town stashed it in the living room......

I think it depends on your definition of collector cars. Are you counting things like 40s and 50s Fiats, Renaults, Citroens, etc? How about 30s, 40s and 50s American "plain Jane" sedans?

Call a Insurance company like Haggerty to ask. They might have approx figures.

    Otherwise a helluva lot.

Hagerty would be a good bet. Also possibly Mark Hyman at Hyman Ltd. Or one of the big auction houses, like R&M.

But you have to define "vintage". It could refer to everything prior to 1968 (pre smog). Definitely a huge market.
