Found the part number from an thread in the archives for the Lower cam drive Outer Sealed Bearings (79 308GTB) what I came up with was 6203 2RS1 C4 HT51 now the question does anybody know where to find them other than the Ferrari $uppliers? Not having much luck.

    Thanks

Look up "Bearings" in the Yellow pages. Every community has a bearing supplier.

If you insist on SKF they can be ordered.

Thanks Brian... I tried that "motion industries and impact bearings" and the C4 part of the equation seems to create a problem...Also went to the internet without much luck which is why I posted this to see if anybody had a source I could patronize. I was hoping to find someone on the west coast.

    Thanks

forget the number, all bearings should and are ordered by od, id, and width, grade , if an issue, is a spec dependent on use and tolerances of the bearing and is determined by the manufacturer and/or the user.

    Hi Clay
Thanks for the input, I see what you are saying, but if there is a SKF part number that has been used by others and is the one spec'ed then I feel safe in ordering by part number. Now if I was the first to do it, or wanted to change manufactures then I could see trying it your way.

    Cheers

I'm guessing you are asking for the brg in the case which bolts to the block?
The one being involved with the peculiar seal affair?
I made extractors and seal drivers for these for 4-valve cras...early carb cars are smaller as I recall....in answer to your OP, when I was with Ferrari, there were several TSBs on updates, seal improvements, yadda, yadda, yadda...the brgs all came in SKF boxes...
    6203-2rs is an SKF p/n#, original Ferrari's use: RIV p/n #ALN 17, 17 x 40 x 12 are the dimensions(see Dino Clay...)FNA p/n #: 95890100.....?????
Can't be much more than 20-30.00 each?????

Dixie Aerospace in Peachtree City GA carries this bearing. I recommend them because they are a supplier to Delta Airlines and have a quality program in place that will prevent counterfeit parts from entering the supply.

Try Applied Industrial Technologies in San Jose,CA 408-436-5464. They are an SKF dealer but I have found that many of the bearings are proprietary to Ferrari. The C4 is a tolerancing spec and I don't recommend stepping down to a C3 rating.

Call "McGuire Bearings" in Portland, Oregon (great guys) --- they can match / source nearly anything.

    http://www.mcguirebearing.com/

And, forget about "SKF" ---- spend an extra 15%, and go with "Timken".......far, far, far superior (and no counterfeits floating around ;))

The lower timing chest bearing on the QV and 328 is a proprietary bearing and a very unique size. This bearing is only available through Ferrari and does not even show up as a valid part number in the SKF system. Ditto on the C4 spec...as this is not a place to install a cheap "no name" bearing.

Oh and I am pretty sure the 2RS1 specifies the cages ie 2xRS1 and the HT51 is the lube which combined with the above mentioned C4 is what is usually what makes it proprietary. Why not just stick with the same bearing and call Ricambi. I have found that chasing bearings that are equivalent is not worth the time or the piece of mind. Now if we were talking about wheel bearings that cost two arms and two legs then I might be willing to experiment.

I don't belive that SKF makes crap bearings mentioned above but quite the opposite! Bearrings get a bad rap but it is often the system around it that dictates it's lifetime.

I live in Germany. SKF is in my old town, Schweinfurt.

If you get the SKF number I can try to get you a price. It MIGHT be lower than what you'd pay in the USA. It might be higher too. Don't know. I'll try if you'd like. PM me if you want.

I looked up the nearest place to you and they have a store in San Marcos.

I've had pretty good luck using Applied. Take your old bearing with you and have them mic it. Sometimes they will find that the manufacture number has been superseded, and there may be other alternatives. Anyway give them a shot.

Found them......$3.95 each at Harbor Freight they use them in their wheel barrow wheels...
Just kidding.. These do seem to be proprietary in nature..the C4 spec is what is hard to find.
Looks like the Ferrari guys are the way to go on this one.. Thanks for all the input and opinions as well....Now wondering which oil is best to use....JUST KIDDING!
