Awaiting imminent arrival of my 296 GTS. Dealer is recommending skid plates as an add-on. I have them on my 360 Spider (and use them) but not on my FF (and no issues). So I'm wondering what other 296 owners have done on this - yes or no on skid plates. And if 'yes' what brand and what cost to install? Appreciate any and all input on this. Thanks!

I haven't considered adding them for my 296 GTB w/AF package so no lifter. It clears my driveway incline without an issue and I don't think I'll be adding it. That said I guess if it saves a scrape on the CF splitter that would probably be worth a lot of $.

I had a Ferrari service center do an install of a carbon skid plate for ~$1k I think after having it scrape slightly even using lift driving around Portland downtown on a couple of bumps and driveways, even angling. Hasn't seemed to cause any extra scraping on it but have been doing mostly highway driving since.

People either love them or hate them. I never had one until my 458 and will get them going forward. The 458 had a lifter, but when you use the lifter, the diffuser slightly lowers so sometimes it’s not always in your best interest. Not to mention, you can’t always prepare to use the lifter on unknown roads or when there is a lot of traffic.

    just my 2 cents

Never got skid plates for the last 3 Ferraris I’ve had. I am careful approaching driveways, etc. but never had the lifter either. Just depends on where you life and where you drive I guess.

I have done them on both McLarens with front end lift and have not regretted it. When Ferrari gets around to making my car, I will definitely add them. On my 2015 Vanquish I did not have them and I sorely regretted it.

Had them on all my other cars, passed on it this time. 296 gtb af, no lift.

Skid plates will lower the front even more. I doubled up on film.

That being said, it does depend where you live. There are some spots I won't take my car regardless of angle.
