Anyone here have any insight into Argentina's ski areas? We're planning to fly to Chile in August and are looking for some advice on ski resorts. We've been told about Las Lenas and another nearby resort.

    Any advice appreciated.

My ex-wife was the big skier and liked to ski Valle Nevada and Portillo in Chile, we also went one year to Pucon which has a ski area on an active volcano. In Argentina Valle de las Lenas and Bariloche. Bariloche is interesting in that is looks like a town in Bavaria. Twelve years ago there were still old SS men living there.

It has been a few years since I was skiing there but I liked Chile better, it was cheaper and the people had less of an attitude. Not much help but have a fun and safe trip. (Peru was also interesting in that our train was held up, in the high desert, by people driving Toyota Pickup's and firing automatic weapons.)

Ive skiid Las Leñas & Bariloche. Bariloche is like a little Bavarian town where you can walk around & see stuff when you are not skiing.

At Las Leñas the "town" is much smaller w just several hotels so theres nothing to do but eat & shag when you are not skiing, STay at the Pisces hotel if you go to Las Leñas it has a pool, jacuzzi & a good masseuse

I thought the skiing at Las Leñas way far better than Bariloche but I only went to B once & the snow was awful.

You should see a lot of Olympic ski teams practicing down there

If you are single you HAVE to go to BA a few days, I'll tell you where to go ;)

Argentines are unforetunately known for being snobby but thats only a few bad apples & they all live in BA, not in the provinces
