So after many month of anxieties, the day has finally arrived for Jane and me to sharpen our racing skills at the Skip Barber. Jane who hasn't touched a stick (no perverted jokes please) in over two years, made a brave and respectable performance at Lime Rock Park. She learned about "heel toe" down shifting and double clutching on a non-synchromeshed gear box. Aside from a slight "lawnmower" move during an apex, Jane's performance will dwarf some of our driving skills (i.e. Geoff).

The day was filled with sunshine, rain, sunshine, rain, more rain...and Paul Newman. Yes, Paul showed up with his modified Corvette (and salad dressing) and lapped Lime Rock Park at 54.5 second.

Anyway, below are a few pics from Day 1. (Left to Right)

    Nice!

What made you pick the formula cars over the road cars? (I'm trying to make this difficult decision myself and am leaning more towards the road cars.)

Great pics Pchop. Looks like you guys are having a blast regardless of the crappy weather. It's also not everyday that you get to hang with Paul Newman at the track...nice!

Next...Go Karts, then the LR Off Road Experience at the Equinox in VT?!

Thanks for the look. I'll be interested in your overall assessment. I stopped at Sears Raceway (North of SFO - now Infineon) earlier this year and checked into a series of training days that would result in a class one license. However, real life experience like you folks have had is important to understand. If you have a minute sometime, give us a quick evaluation of the experience. Thanks!

Formula car because all of them are setup the same, and you'll know where to look when you lag behind someone else.

    Steve and Evo:

I've been to a Ferrari Owner Club's track event at Watkins Glen. Although the instruction I received with FOC was helpful, it's no where near the level at Skip Barber. I learned a tremendous amount of info there and I like the hands on experience. The course is about 15% class room and 85% track. And it's a humbling experience. Highly recommended it.
