Anyone know what's the best way to use skype on the iphone? I've googled it a few times, and there are a few different options. I'm looking to make some calls from Europe, and don't want a huge bill. Thanks.

Ok, I looked into it further. skype is available, (kinda), via s4iphone.com. Looks like it uses a web site, so no app to install. But there's a catch: international data rates.......
just got off the phone with AT&T. It urns out, to use my iPhone internationally, (just for data, not phone calls), the cost is 2c./kilobyte. That's over $20 /meg!
They will offer me an add on plan, that costs $24.99/ month, and allows 20 megs, or $59.99/ month that allows 50 megs.
How is everyone else doing this? Certainly, no one is paying that?!
Do I need to jailbreak the phone for this?
    help a brother out...........

If I remove the sim, and replace it with a blank one, can I use this just like a small laptop, to access the net "covertly"?

Hmmm - I'm not familiar with S4iphone, but don't see how AT&T "knows" you're moving data internationally...... As far as they can "see" you're transferring packets with a US based server - Where those packets go subsequently is, AFAIK, nothing to do with them.

Again, AFAIK, logging in to a UK based server (google.co.uk for example) doesn't invoke any "international" charges.

Now, OTOH, international text messaging gets you raped - I've eventually convinced my kids to NOT text me unless it's urgent as the exorbitant charges apply both ways. However, and I don't know where you're trying to call, my son in the UK has cable TV based phone service, and he can call either my landline or my iphone for free as part of that service..... [I was surprised as well that the cell phone was included, but he assures me he hasn't seen anything "nasty" on his bill, and neither have I] In fact, this prompted me to investigate the ip phone service available from "the orange company" who's name I can't recall right now - Sorry - They advertise "free" international calling - But NOT to cell phones.

    Cheers,
    Ian
