I thought the exact same thing. The developer probably paid big $ to a "naming consultant" for that one.
agreed ...i would have called it "soar" or "solara" or "panorama" ...anything but habitat! (now where's my cheque )
It's named after the company that developed it. They have many properties around the country. Maybe they will come up with a better name before its done. I do like the buildings design. It has a slightly different sister building a block away already completed. You can see it off the Ohio street bridge.
2 new projects downtown, (left)One South Halsted has been approved by the city. Golubs 9th and State street project will start construction early 2013. Tom Tanner/Ferrari Expo 2013-Chicago March 2013 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
all these skyscrapers look spectacular. but i would not want to live in any of them. maybe i am the oldfashioned house and garden guy.
I think if you work in a downtown it is great, and you have an amazing view. You can walk to work and so much is available to you in cities like NY and Chicago within a few blocks!! A good amount of people with condos also own a house with a lawn out in the country.
Some amazing airborne shots of downtown Chicago showing all the new projects. http://www.flickr.com/photos/yochicago1/7998490909/in/photostream/ Very large format pictures. Check this set out. Tom Tanner/Ferrari Expo 2013-Chicago March 2013
Pity they never got further with the Chicago Spire. Instead of the tallest superstructure in the western hemisphere they ended up with the shortest I would LOVE to live in Chicago, and with a view!
Just found this, this is awesome! Scrolled through all the photos and loved the classic ones! Even though I live in the suburbs, I can still call Chicago home
The AFL-CIO to invest and become a Wolf Point partner along with Hines, Magellan and the Kennedy family. Will be right across from the new Riverview highrise. Starting in 2015/16 this area around the Chicago River will look completly different. Will also look amazing coming from O'hare on the Kennedy for visitors as it will add a huge skyscraper wall against the west and northwest part of the Chicago River main branch. http://www.wolfpointchicago.com/content/news http://www.wolfpointchicago.com/
Well this is a real shame in my opinion. 30 years from now they will regret it. The building that replaces this will not be half as innovative. Great job Rahm.......... http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/commentary/chi-prentice-hospital-rahm-emanuel-20121030,0,1308237.story

That rounded section of Prentice should be preserved, somehow incorporate it into the plan. It still looks like a futuristic research type building. Beautiful structures should be kept and only attractive new ones should be allowed. (most can agree) Luckily these posts show some nice new buildings, whereas the pictures show a number of old ugly boxes.
I agree with that. I also think the worst era for skyscrapers was between 1950-1960. Very cold looking buildings built during that period with a few exceptions. By the way, Prentice will be torn down, a real shame.

Two new glass boxes going up: Wolf Point's west tower will start contruction on July 31st 2013. It is the first of three towers to be built at Wolf Point, a river side parcel owned by the Kennedy family. This 1st tower will be 525 feet tall and is the smallest of the Wolf Point towers planned. Also the 500 foot+ Jewel development on Chicago's gold coast to start contruction soon(2nd picture). Rare height in this NIMBY filled area. That would be something, an exclamation point on the economic revival of the US that is happening (thanks to energy) and quite a sight to look at. Just wouldn't catch me living/working at the top of that thing. So fragile yet beautiful looking.
