I am very interested in the car. What sparks it the most is that, well, I can get a 7 year, 100,000 mile warrenty, have everything covered, drive it everyday with no problems.

The MSRP on the car I would like (SL600 with diamond silver on charcoal, with the only the heated non-wooden wheel, Keyless Go,

Tire-Pressure Monitoring and parktronic as options would be nice as would Illuminated Door Sills, but are not ness.

MSRP is around 132k for a car like this.

Where can I get it for the best deal? If I can get it for a pretty good price, I am sold, I was wondering if anyone had any tips.

Also I am interested how the different silver shades compare.

Unless the price is ridiculous, I'd buy it off the closest/best dealer. Reason is, Benzie seems to struggle a lot with their electronics and cars get stranded or in failsafe mode often. Not sure if they had improved, but it appears 2002-3-4 has been pretty rough (for big cars in general -bimmer too-).

You mentioned silver, do not forget that bronze/sand/goldish color. I personally like it a lot, and you don't see to many of them. Match that to a set of 5 spoke AMGs and you got my dream car :D. Or close to it.

Don't these get bought by car of the month club guys and turned in after some depreciation? My friend Frank Donatoni runs the Brandywine Porsche dealership in West Chester Pa. They have an MB dealership as well. You can call him, use my name and talk with him about numbers; you don't even have to deal with the folks at the MB side if you don't want to. (PS, i like the car, too and the 12s are pretty wonderful).

Just wondering, why not? For the record I dont normally deal with mercedes, I am a BMW guy, but the new models are...well ugly as sin, and I am trying to decide between a 600 and 55. Since I am planning on keep the car for a long time, I would like the faster one of the two, and it seems the 600 is the one.

Not sure i understood your question. My point was only that you might be able to get a deal on a "slightly used" one, with the full warranty.

I apologize, I thought you ment to stay away from the slightly used ones.

Is the 600 truely faster then the AMG?

yes, esp 0-60...see car and driver.... this is due to the massive torque the 600 has vs the amg...

It should say Hazleton, but the n got cut off for some reason. (the display character length is just one short of what it should be) It is in NE PA, Luzerne county, about an hour north from Allentown.

I never really trust C&D numbers though, what have other magazines clocked it at?

The rear tires are rather puny at 285mm (on a 9.5 inch wheel) considering the torque this puts down. The first thing I would do is up size this to get better times of the line.

Total Est. Time: 2 hours, 4 minutes as by Mapquest.

  13. SL600 has more interior options etc like wood wheel. I would go for the SL600 hands down get a ECU mod from RENNtech and you will easily hit low 3's 0-60 middle 11's 1/4..... Its a great car Mercedes had some issues with the E55k in 2003 but all that has been solved and I havent heard of any problems that people are having with any of there automobiles now. If you drive the SL600 you wont settle for anything less its truly amazing performance luxury and overall feel of how well it rides.

Silver looks great so does black on red.

This is my favorite combo right here..

I like black, but it is too hard to keep clean. While the chip mods sound tempting, one of hte big lures of this is the free maintaince and extendable warrenty to 100k. This keeps the car out of my head. My fcar's maintaince fills that nicely along with my BMW's. (*sigh*)

I am not looking for a 100% reliable car, as much as a car that I don't have to think about if there is an issue. They come fix and return it, not my hassle.

  15. Black isn’t hard to keep clean if your know how to take care or it. The ECU mod doesn’t void the warranty and the car is still 100% reliable. I fellow I know has a S600 that has the RENNtech ECU mod and his car is leased and its 100% reliable. Don’t listen to all the stuff people are saying about reliability with Mercedes, BMW has had it fare share of serious quality control issues with cars being bought back by BMW from customers etc..

The dealer told me it did.

I wonder though, does the chip make it undrivable, or is the power only available if a switch is seleted? I was looking at a lotus, but reports tell me the car becomes almost undrivable withe the racing chip. I would not mind this for a weekend car, but this is supposed to be my daily driver. Also how much does it cost?

Side note, as for BMWs I know, its sad. I greatly dislike the bangle cars.

  17. You have the total wrong idea here. The car is 100% drivable and RENNtech guarantee’s the warranty wont be voided. Its not a racing chip it just optimizes the factory ECU for more power etc.. Did you look at that guys S600. ?

I got a quote that the ECU upgrade is about $6400 to have it done right from Renntech. Power is around 540-560rwhp. Torque in excess of 700. Not too shabby.

Cost is not too bad considering althougth I like the sport option, I do not like it more then the standard look. (of which the lower bumper is very ferrari-esque) Being about the same in cost as to the sport option, I feel it is much better money spent. (although such figures are meaningless at this level)

I think speed wise the 55 and the 600 are about a toss up. The 55 looks a little sportier in my opinion. The one to get now is the sl65 with 615hp. You can probably get the best deal on a used sl55 at this point because there are so many more out there.
