D/l rates are almost non-existant, have anywhere else to d/l from?

Assuming you have broadband, I think your Bit Torrent application is not properly setup. You need to forward the relevant ports through your firewall (if you have a router or NAT firewall) and limit your upload bandwidth to a good compromise number. If you need directions, post and I can try to help.

EDIT : I've attached a screen capture of a typical rate I get on a fast torrent (The 5th and Top Gear torrents may be slightly slower but are still OK). As you can see the d/l rate is around 180 kbyte/sec, which is very close to my connection limit. Before I set up my application, I wasn't seeing anywhere close to these rates. :)

No problem, but I'll have to post the details later today. I'm heading out (actually for a track event/high performance driving course ;) ) so I'll be a while. But I'll certainly come back and make the time to post. :)

Hey, I'm back ;) Pretty nice day at the track, but very tiring.

I found a FAQ that explains it very nicely. Here are the addresses :

    http://dessent.net/btfaq/#ports

    http://dessent.net/btfaq/#speed

Those should do the trick nicely. Main thing is to forward the ports for incoming connections (the range is 6881-6999) and to limit the upload rate to around 70 to 80 % of your connection cap. These limits can be set with the newer bit torrent clients like ABC ("Yet Another Bit Torrent Client"). The port forwarding method depends on your router, for my Linksys router, I access settings through the browser. Oh, and don't forget to set iup your software firewall to also allow incoming connections through those ports. :)

I get my Top Gear vids from www.racingflix.com. It's a paid site, but I get over 200KB/sec download speeds, so no complaints. This speed is straight downloading within the browser, not thru those download accelerators.
