funny thing. In between races (Laguna to Phoenix) my girlfriend and I were touring some national parks and came from Grand Canyon pulling into a Holiday Inn express in Flagstaff AZ. I look over and I see Bob W. walking through the lobby. Then I run into him at the elevator and had a quick chat. Damn world is so small.
as for tires you may want to look into others than Pirellis. Yokohama, Dunlop etc. Bob may be able to help you on those.
They all behave a little different. Some are great in the first 5 laps, others take 5 to get really good. Some get off sooner than others but last longer. You can adjust to the driving with the brands. I rather have good tires in the beginning when the field is all bunched up and get a good run at the field than 20m into the session when they loose grip. Coincidently I never cared for Pirelli slicks much.
Depending on the brand/compound, the car requires a different alignement, and different suspension settings (bump, rebound, etc). There are ways to get the tires to last longer and get more grip. If you are racing and not just doing DE's, you should look into tire warmers. They can help in MANY ways. Read the June RCE for a good article on how to benefit most from properly using tire warmers. Yok, Michelin, Dunlop, etc are all good, just have to have the car setup accordingly.
