it sounds like the exaust ecu, its shutting down half the engine, either malfuction or the cat is too hot

There's a temp ecu for each cat. Depending on the year, there's 1 or 2 cats.

Symptom can be either a bad cat temp ecu, or a bad temp sensor, or bad wiring.

Try switching all connections between the cat temp ecus to see if the problem follows the ECU, or stays with the same bank.

You're looking for this item: 154470

Absolutely try swaping them side-to-side before buying a new one. They're around $600 each (probably $800+ at a dealer), if I remember correctly.

    OK,
Since the problem stayed w/1-6 when you swapped the ECUs, it's NOT an ECU. Either a flaky connection to, or the 1-6 bank temp sensor.

Try swapping just the temp sensor (#14) plugs if the wires are long enough to reach w/o laying against a hot exhaust.

Problem may go away because plugging/unplugging the connectors wiped some corrosion off. If so, switch them back, but put some Oxy-Solve (hw store elec. supply area), or dielectric grease on the contacts to keep air out of the joint before plugging them in again.

If not, then the problem should go with the bad temp sensor & you'll get the 5-8 indicator. If so, then you'll need a new temp sensor.
