August Forza issue said that a 1980 308 GTSI sold for over $50,000 at the RM auction at Amelia Island in March. As much as I am teased about how slow my car is, do you think us 308 guys will finially be getting some respect from the other stuckup F cars owners.

It's the driver, not the car, baby!

You on the mend these days?

Cavallino gives the 308s an "up" arrow, we'll be living in mansions anyday!

'Auction mania' will return to exotic sports cars, hopfuly while we are still breathing! That sure looks like a nice event, we should go some day.....

It was probably the platinum spark plugs and the full tank of liquid gold gas that drove the price up from the normal $2,500 your slow 308 would bring. :) :)

Did the Forza mentioned who bought the car and where the car is?

They did not say. It just said a 1980 308GTSi went for 50,600. It must have been a typo they must have meant $5,060. Right Kelly :) :)

It had a verified milage of 3,480 miles at the Amelia Island auction.

Also it was a GTB. Even though the description says GTS the pictures show coupe.

So rarity and a non disconnected odometer number resulted in a big $ sale.

I'm sure the $50K was because it was an ultra-low mileage time capsule car. All 308s are slow, but they're sports car icons. I might have paid that, come to think of it.

Is'nt it that the 308 also falls under the term "EXOTIC" cars?

I wonder how we can REALLY know for sure the speedo wasn't simply disconnected during all that time? Sure he may have a few receipts from 1985, 1989, 1994, 2000 that show the milage.... but the speedo connection, did the same receipts mention that it was still hooked up too?

Who cares why it cost so much, all us 308 owners should be happy. Keep those prices in the upward direction!

I had a very good look around the whole car at the auction. I believe the mileage (seats, pedals, trim etc) but it looked like it had led a hard life in those few miles. The engine was dirty, paint a little faded, headliner a bit droopy and a couple of other little issues. It looked like a car that had sat a lot, maybe stored improperly and been driven in and out of dealers if that makes sense. There was a receipt for a recent (2005) major service I didn't see the earlier ones. In my opinion it was not a condition 1 car, more like a 2+ that could be brought up to condition 1 with some detailing. Someone at the auction said the car had sold in 2005 for $57k not sure if this is correct or not.

If that had happened, I'm sure we would have heard about it around here.

Your description does NOT sound like an ultra low milage anything.

Well I am very picky but as stated it looked like a car that was badly stored but possibly hardly driven. I often see very high freeway mileage cars that look new and then very low mile city cars look beat especially if from NYC etc.

Check out sportscar market magazine, they also reported on the car. One of the things that worried them was the fact that a lot of injected 308s had oil buring issues and as this one was low miles it may never have had a fix under warranty.
