My just bought 1990 348 TS with 17,000 miles and only driven less than 200 miles since I bought it now has a problem with a slow down light. This is at idle when cold. I took it out of my garage today and it sat outside several hours. Temps today in the mid 80's. Started it up and the slow down light for 5-8 is on. This is with a cold engine. The 348 curse starts.

Bought this 348 From Continental in Chicago. I tried to get them to tell me the previous owners name as I wanted to talk to him. They refused to give me that information. So I wonder what they may have been hiding from me? I have a few other problems I need to post yet.

If you just bought it from Continental, I would have them look at it. Not sure you're going to get much info/assistance from the previous owner anyway.

Both SLOW DOWN lights, plus your ABS/Brake lights should come on for a little less than 15 seconds as they do their self-tests upon a cold startup.

If a SLOWDOWN light stays on for as long as your motor is running, then you'll want to pull your engine codes first, and perhaps swap exhaust ECUs from side to side (see above link at the348.com).

When do your lights come on, and do they turn back off?

That's generally considered bad form. When a new Buyer wants information from the old Owner, 9 times out of 10 the new Buyer wants money or other compensation...hence, Sellers are reluctant to divulge such information (and if they did, the Dealership would be liable for many problems).

Don't panic. This is not a "348 curse." We don't use that kind of language around here!

If a Slow-Down light comes on (and remains illuminated) while the engine is cold, that means (probably) that you have a bad Catalyzer Temperature ECU. The failed ECU could be causing the false Slow-Down light to come on.

I suggest you post this thread in the Technical section. Look for responses from Ferrari masters such as Rifledriver, Dr_Ferrari, tbakowsky, Miltonian, Ernie, etc.

Gas is new. Put fresh gas in about 80 miles ago.

After 5 minutes or so of showing the SLOW DOWN 1-4 and/or SLOW DOWN 5-8 warning light, your A/F ECU's will shut off on or both banks of cylinders.

Should I try to drive it and chance it goes out before one or both banks shuts down? It takes 5 minutes just to get hot enough to rev it up to red line.

I need to get it working as I need to do my WI emissions test in less than 2 weeks now.

Most likely a bad exhaust ECU. Try switching the sensor connector from the other side and see if the light shows the other bank. If so get a new (or used) ECU. I bought a few from FBB. If you need one send me a PM and I'll reverse the curse! Sometimes a brother needs a little help. I always say, give my brother a hand up, not a hand out... Oh wait, that's P & R....
