Hi! After washing her yesterday the slow down light came on for the right cylinder bank. I disconnected the battery for about an hour today and cleaned the O2 sensor couplings but the light still there. Car is running perfect, btw. Any suggestions, friends?

Looks like too much washing, not enough driving. The slow down ECUs are sometimes a problem and can be affected by moisture. If the light is on even when the engine is cold, this is likely the case.

There are a few threads devoted to this problem and how you might correct it.

I'm not so sure that the washing did anything. The right side ecus are down pretty low and not so exposed from a wash.

The SDL are initiated by the cat thermocouples and the cat ecus, not the 02 sensors. If you want to clean connectors you need to do the two that are on the right side cat ecu. One is the two pinned thermocouple one and the other is the 3 pinned ecu power ,ground and output.

If the light persists and you want to get down to what is causing it I can guide you via some diagnostics that you need to do before just buying parts.

Thank you 2NA. I have done a search but my English are probably not as good as yours.

This was my first wash this summer and I´ve been driving two-three times every week now since April. ;)

So, I start with disconnecting the cat ecus and dry them out. Is there a trick to make the light go off? Or does it go off automatically when the problem is solved. Remember that the car is working perfectly.

Just because Bertil is on the line, it does not mean that my problem is solved. Keep it coming! Love!

I am confused by your original post. How do you know it is the right bank? The sdl does not specify right or left.

If the right light is on, it means the right cylinder bank 5 to 8. If it´s the left bank (1-4) the left light comes on.

It doesn't? I had some in my car last fall after purchase and I think there is one for each bank. We switched to 355 cat ecus in February and its been great ever since. I've washed it twice but keep the water off the engine cover. I put plastic under it the first time. Exhaust burble is intoxicating on lift, with my oiled cotton air filter and valve shim adjustments. :)

He has a 348 and I believe they have 2 lights where the 355 has only one...

Thanks for this thread also, Tim. Just scanned it quick and looks like a ton of knowledge. I've added it to my favorites.

And you resealed them? One of the Ferrari techs up here said that the 355 ecus went over to a green silicon sealant which was better than the older stuff. I think the boards were redesigned as well. You want to be sure they are dry before you reseal them. Good work anyway. I could have bought 2 laptops for what I paid but the labor for me was zero and it's done for the long haul ;)

It's actually one of the differences between the 2.7 and 5.2 Motronic. US cars from 1996 and newer except for Challenge versions are 5.2. Cars for other markets may not be aligned with the US versions so the model years may not be the same. The 2.7s have both Slow Down and Check Engine lights for each bank which are independent of each other.

Per, heat them up again just to be sure! If they haven't seen condensation you are probably ok. But these are the steps if it happens again. Gotta wash and wax my baby! :D
