Been looking at and driving lots of cars in my search for the right one.

The only QV i've seen with slow down lights is an 83. None of the others have them. Is there a chance that someone just put a QV plenum and badge on a 2v car? This kinda fake badging is common in the Camaro/Mustang world.

I'm again considering the car in question so i thought i'd ask?

Also this car has test pipes. Does this test pipe get rid of the sensors for the slowdown lights and is the danger of a fire increased or decreased with test pipes?

    Thanks

slow down lights came with CATS starting in 1978......

test pipes, while a violation of Federal Law if used on public roads, certainly reduce the risk of fire IMO.........

it could burn some money from your wallet, I suppose......

Glad we don't have smog check in Fl.

I actually did see an 83 with the lights on e-bay after making this post.

Federal laws are the best to violate.

All the kids are doing it.

As Bubba said, all of the cat-equipped ('78 to '85) US 308 have an over-temp warning light(s) system -- perhaps some of the examples you've looked at are euro/standard 308QV.

If you are looking to buy a US 308 you should make sure that the self-test for the warning light(s) is working (the self-test not working is very unobvious, but it is just as bad as a warning light being stuck "on" when it shouldn't be).

IMO, you should deduct the cost of the warning light ECU (if the self-test isn't working) and the cost for a pair of Hyper-flow cats less the value of the test pipes for this 308QV.

When the ignition key is turned to the "on" position, the overtemp warning light should come "on" for a second or two and then go "out".

Do you have a copy of the US 308QV OMs? If not send me a PM with your email address and I'll send .pdf copies.
