    The tach is intermittently indicating about half the rpms it should: idle at around 500, about 1800 at 70 mph in 5th. I'm new to the 328 - any ideas? Thanks.

    It's a very common problem. A search will yield many threads on the subject. It's happened to me twice (two different328's). In both cases I sent them to Palo Alto Speedometer and had them rebuilt for about $150.00.
