first, you should search the archives. there are dozens of such posts, including general advice, reading suggestions, education suggestions, and so on and so forth.

in the absence of a specific question, you're probably better suited to finding a few good books or a few good mentors - and posting more detailed queries once you've got something to chew on.

Searching won't do you much good if you're not subscribed. Buy a subscription, then you will have access to the Business forum, which is where everything you'll need to know is.

Webby hit the bullseye - the best thing you can do is spend the $$ for registration and get access to the private/subscribed business forum, which IMO is a wealth of knowledge and people will be happy to help you.

Speaking of which this thread will probably get moved there anyway, so you gotta ante up to read it :)

I am too. So far I've learned that you're best bet is to get your feet wet with something. You'll probably find low to moderate success at best or will simply fail. Learn, rinse, and repeat.

Learn a business on someone else's dime if you have the patience and time.

    IMHO

Only advice I can give is:

Work for the man until you want to kill him.

    Then open your own!

Having seen my dad go through more bull**** with bosses when I was growing up that's probably the best advice. My dad was pulling in so much money as a salesman he was making more than the president of the company, so he started getting shafted with his pay.

My dad went to one other job which was a partnership and got ****ed and had to sue him to get the money he was owed, and then started up his own company. Nearly 15 years later my dads business is still rolling (although he's getting close to retiring) and the others have fallen on hard times last he heard.

You learn the game, learn how to not play the game, then succeed.
