I looked in the archives, and did not find anything. Any recommendations for a reasonable priced rechroming shop? It's a pretty small job: a Colt Derringer pistol. I have taken it apart, so it's two pieces, but really needs rechroming.
    Thanks

Call some reputable gun stores in your area. Many do re-blueing in house or have someone they use. They will probably know of a guy to do chrome as well.

What year is yours from? Is it the cloverleaf type?

Could your gun be nickel and not chrome? My old colts are nickel.

The derringers they made in the late 1800s were usually about 80-90% nickel with some blueing on them. IIRC

Definitiely do it through a gun dealer that has rechromed before. Chroming does add material to the thickness, and if too much is added it could potentially hamper the function of the gun with its very tight tolerances.

Thanks for the suggestions. I stopped in my local gun shop, who gave me a couple of names. I beileve it is indeed nickel plated. It has a plated grip frame, and may have had a blued barrel, hard to tell. From my research, I believe it's a standard derringer, as it has with COLT in italicised block lettering on top of the barrel. Shoots .22 shorts.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH NO! DO NOT REPLATE THE GUN!!! keep it oiled, play with it, shoot it if you must. it is collectable with its original finish, and worthless if redone. pm me if you need any help. i dont have my value book handy but i would NOT refinish it unless there are special circumstances. i recently accuired a very rare Ruger Bearcat from 1958 with the original box in mint condition....... the old stuff is worth $$$$ and has history. redone, it looses almost all its collectors value.
