Occasionally I see people post a screenshot from their phone. How do you do this? I'm using a droid 2 if that helps

I don't think you can on a droid, if you hold the lock button and home button on the iPhone it snaps a screenshot.

There are apps for this in the android market. Some of them require that the phone be rooted. Some are specific to certain models.

Droid 2 will require that you root your phone and install an app or a different ROM. It isn't difficult to do. I went the custom ROM route with my DroidX.

IIRC, Ice Cream Sandwich will have screenshot support built in. Unfortunately it is not yet known if Motorola will be updating the droid 2 to ICS.

Is there a technical reason for this?

I find it sort of odd. Even my old Palm Pre had a button combination that did screen shots out of the can.

Seems like a good thing to have that would promote the brand.

No technical reasons that I know of...

Probably it was just way down on the list of importance.

I was just reading up on this yesterday.

On one of the forums, a guy stated he noticed there was something that said screencapture (or similar) in his application list. He's suspecting Google is working on implementing it, it's just not top priority.

I have read that some phones, they seem to be samsungs can do it by holding down the "return" or "back" button and pressing menu or the top button.
