I recently purchased a 1992 Ferrari 348TS from out of state with a full Fabspeed exhaust system installed. I need to pass California smog inspection to get a new title, but I don't want to completely replace the aftermarket exhaust.

My initial plan was to install aftermarket catalytic converters (PC-1) and take it to a smog station. However, my exhaust shop is hesitant to do this installation because they believe the Fabspeed headers will still cause me to fail inspection, wasting my money on the cats. The shop said they would install the cats if I insist, but recommended I speak with a Referee (REF) station first to avoid having to remove everything later.

I'm looking for alternatives besides buying and installing the original Ferrari headers, cats, and exhaust system.

I'm located in Carlsbad, California if that's relevant to my options.

Original headers and cats are mandatory for Kalifornia, , exhaust is a free issue, and does not affect a smog

As cautioned in the note above from Gary Bobileff, do the catalytic converter homework carefully in advance, and while implementing, for California. Look at the California Air Resources Board, (for example, https://ww2.arb.ca.gov/aftermarket-catalytic-converters ) and other sites to learn the steps to take.

I have a friend who took care of catalytic converters on a Porsche some years older than your car. That took him more than a year to reach documented compliance.

You better gets some oe cats and oe headers from specialized in ranch Cordova. You also need the air system working too. Then you actually have to pass smog on the smog dyno because not obd2. It’s quite a project to be titled in cali. Do you have other title and reg options?
